Primary

Purpose:

Provide instructional support services. Assist teacher in instruction, preparation, and management of classroom activities. Work under direct supervision of teacher.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

Must have secondary school diploma or its recognized equivalent (GED) AND meet one of the following qualifications:

* Obtained an Associate's degree (or higher),

* Have completed at least two years of study (minimum of 48 college hours) at an institution of higher education, or

* Any assessment approved and/or provided by the State of Texas.

Valid Texas educational aide certificate

Special Knowledge/

Skills:

Bilingual highly preferred

Ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics.

Ability to work well with children

Ability to communicate effectively

Experience:

Some experience working with children

Major

Responsibilities and Duties:

Instructional Support

* Provide direct instruction of students under direct supervision of teacher.

* Conduct instructional exercises assigned by the teacher; work with individual students or small groups.

* Assist in positive behavior support systems.

* Assist teacher in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays.

* Assist with administration and scoring of objective testing instruments or work assignments.

* Help with inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment by maintaining a neat and orderly classroom.

* Help teacher keep administrative records and prepare required reports.

* Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.

Student Management

* Help supervise students throughout school day, inside and outside classroom. This includes lunchroom, bus, and playground duty.

* Keep teacher informed of special needs or problems of individual students.

Other

* Participate in staff development training programs to improve job performance.

* Participate in campus meetings and special events as assigned.

* Maintain same ethical standards as certified classroom teachers.

* Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
