Position Summary

The Infection Preventionist II is responsible for managing advanced infection prevention needs, applying knowledge and skill to solve complex infection prevention situations, leading performance improvement activities that reduce the risk of infection.

SHIFT: Day shift, M-F 8-4:30

Responsibilities

Essential Functions

  • Implements and coordinates facility-wide/assigned area IP program based on local, state, and federal recommendations as well as regulatory and nationally recognized guidance organizations related to Orlando Health’s Infection Prevention program.
  • Leads initiatives to improve infection prevention measures in a variety of settings.
  • Serves as subject matter expert in activities including the latest CDS, CMS, Joint Commission, OSHA, and other state regulatory requirements.
  • Observes health care processes and environmental conditions to identify gaps or best practices that can be shared among the Orlando Health’s Infection Prevention program for improvement or implementation.
  • Creates and leads collaborative improvement plans with key stakeholders to reduce risk of infection.
  • Provides follow-up assessments to ensure successful completion of those improvement plans.
  • Creates partnerships with leaders to ensure policies, procedures maintain standardization with the Orlando Health Infection Prevention program.
  • Educates, coaches and mentors team members and Infection Preventionist on Infection Prevention processes.
  • Utilizes evidence-based literature to support performance improvement activities to reduce the risk of infection.
  • Possesses the ability to interact cooperatively and respectfully with IP team members and clinical partners.
  • Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
  • Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.

Other Related Functions

  • Represents Infection Prevention as a subject matter expert on committees and in process improvement activities.
  • Participates in on call as department requires.
  • Adheres to Orlando Health policies and procedures, value statements, and Commitment to Excellence Standards.
  • Serves as support in the absence of other infection prevention program leadership.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by leadership.
Qualifications

Education/Training

Enrolled in a Master’s degree as a Registered Nurse, Medical Technologist, Public Health, or other healthcare sciences/administration with completion required in 3 years of start. Computer skills to include Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point

Licensure/Certification

CIC certification required (Certification in Infection Control)

Experience

Three (3)+ years of experience in healthcare as an infection preventionist.

NOTE: Ideal candidate with nursing or lab background, experienced and certified with experience in IP.
