The YWCA of Western Massachusetts is dedicated to eliminating racism and empowering women. It provides a safe place for survivors of domestic violence and/or sexual assault. The YWCA offers crisis shelter, transitional housing, counseling, court advocacy, community education, supervised visitation, and vocational training for youth ages 17-24.
Job OverviewThe YWCA is seeking a Direct Service Advocate (DSA) for our Holyoke Young Parent Program. The DSA will provide support, advocacy, and role modeling to adult, teen, and child program participants living in the YWCA’s residential programs. DSAs work as part of a team model with peers, supervisors, clinicians, and outside partners to best serve participants.
Primary Responsibilities- Work 24/7 program schedule, including holiday shifts as needed.
- Conduct safety checks on residents and children to support their safety and well‑being.
- Ensure mothers supervise children at all times.
- Encourage and support the development of life skills, positive parenting, and improved parent‑child interaction.
- Provide support to mothers during crises or when they feel overwhelmed.
- Document and provide daily program communication, including case notes, resident files, and communication logs for every shift using AWARDS.
- Maintain the facility and property, ensuring 100% completion of chores before signing off on the chore list (vacuuming, laundry, shoveling, raking, mopping, bedroom preparation).
- Follow program procedures, rules, regulations, and policies.
- Ensure a safe and supportive living environment by completing required safety sweeps (minimum of four times each shift) for premises, alarms, doors, windows, appliances, and bedrooms.
- Associate’s degree or equivalent education or experience in a human services field.
- Minimum one year of counseling and direct service experience.
- Experience working with victims of domestic violence is preferred.
- Reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license preferred.
- Physical ability to lift up to 40 lbs.
- Position covered under the CBA (union) and subject to union dues.
