The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides direct nursing care to patients hospitalized for treatment of behavioral health, psychiatric conditions, substance use, or dual-diagnosis disorders. Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, the LPN delivers compassionate, trauma-informed care while maintaining a safe and therapeutic environment.
You will play a key role as part of a multi-disciplinary care team
, supporting treatment planning, de‑escalation, medication administration, observation protocols, and patient education.
Reports To: Nurse Manager / Chief Nursing Officer
FLSA: Non-Exempt
- Education: Graduate of an accredited LPN/LVN Program (Required)
- License: Current LPN/LVN License in the State of Massachusetts (Required)
- Certifications: CPR (Required upon hire); CPI/Handle With Care (Preferred or obtained within 30 days)
- Behavioral Health, Detox, Psychiatric, or Med/Surg experience
- Familiarity with trauma-informed care practices
Job Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care under RN supervision
- Conduct patient observations and safety checks
- Administer medications safely and per protocol
- Transcribe and carry out physician orders accurately
- Document patient status, response to interventions, and progress toward goals
- Assist with psychiatric emergencies and crisis stabilization
- Educate patients and families on treatment plans and care expectations
- Serve as a patient advocate, ensuring dignity, rights, and confidentiality
- Participate actively in interdisciplinary treatment planning
- Support detox monitoring protocols as applicable
- Communicate clinical updates to RN, provider, and care team
- Promote a positive, therapeutic, and recovery-focused environment
Other duties may be assigned based on unit needs.
