Operations Manager
Overview
Deputy Leader (Assistant Plant Manager) Wastewater Treatment & Collections — Massachusetts (Veolia). Position purpose: assist the Site Leader in managing daily operations, align with organizational goals and standards, relay site goals and updates, foster a collaborative environment, adapt to changing site needs, and serve as acting Site Leader in their absence to ensure continuity of operations.
Responsibilities- Safety: foster a safety-driven culture, ensure training, resources, and PPE; maintain compliance with OSHA, State, and Veolia Safety and Environmental programs.
- Compliance: oversee contract execution and ensure adherence to environmental, health, safety, operating, maintenance, and emergency procedures.
- Reliability: monitor project delivery, maintain quality and consistent results, coordinate problem resolution, and manage conflicting priorities.
- People Focused: promote positive culture, manage resources, communicate goals, evaluate and mentor the team.
- Customer Obsessed: build relationships with customers, address escalated issues, pursue opportunities to improve Net Promoter Scores.
- Cost Effective: support OPEX initiatives, assist with budgeting and cost control, identify and implement process improvements for efficiency.
- Primary duties include supporting the Site Leader in team performance, coaching, client communications, promoting safety, mentoring junior team members, and growth toward future leadership.
- People Management: supervise team (typically less than 10 FTEs), promote culture, manage resources, communicate initiatives, and evaluate the team.
- Safety Management: implement safety protocols, conduct training, monitor safety metrics and drive improvement.
- Compliance Oversight: oversee site contract execution and adherence to procedures.
- Operational Reliability: monitor performance, maintain quality, coordinate problem resolution.
- Customer Relations: build relationships, respond to inquiries promptly, collaborate to improve customer experience.
- Facility Management: manage facilities (generally under 1 MGD) or assist Site Leader with larger facilities, align with project scope.
- High School Diploma/GED required.
- Degree in Business, Engineering, Project Management, or related field strongly preferred but not required.
- 3 years of leadership experience, including 2 in a supervisory role, focused on supporting leadership and operations.
- Operational Knowledge: understanding of unit processes in water/wastewater treatment; knowledge of water treatment processes and wastewater treatment stages.
- Systems Expertise: knowledge of electrical, mechanical, instrumentation and control systems; familiarity with process monitoring and automation.
- Computer
Skills:
proficiency with Microsoft Office; data management; SCADA (desirable); CMMS. - Desirable
Skills:
familiarity with water quality testing, regulatory compliance, basic troubleshooting, and ability to read technical drawings.
- Must be able to obtain certifications as required.
- Regularly required to talk or hear; may stand, walk, climb stairs/ladders, sit, use hands, reach, balance, kneel, crouch, or crawl; may lift 10-25 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds occasionally.
The noise level is usually moderate.
Compensation & Benefits- Pay Range: $115,000 to $120,000 per year.
