Responsibilities- The Neurodiagnostic Technologist Level 1 performs standard and complex Neurodiagnostic procedures for patients with moderate supervision as directed according to established standards and practices. Provides technical assistance and training to students. Completes all necessary documentation for departmental records and patient procedures. Supports all functions, goals, and objectives of the department as well as development of any new programs that involve the Neurodiagnostic Lab and Epilepsy Unit.
- Electrode Placement:
Utilizes the International 10-20 Electrode Placement system to measure, mark and apply electrodes to the predetermined positions on the patient s scalp. - Impedance management:
Routinely achieves impedance levels below 10k ohms. - Routine EEGs:
Performs standard EEG recordings according to departmental protocols including awake and asleep, bedside, isolation, geriatric, pediatric, neonatal, etc. - Video EEGs:
Performs standard Video EEG Long Term Monitoring recording according to department protocols; maintains electrode integrity and collects patient information pertinent to interpretation. - Evoked Potentials:
Performs standard Visual Evoked Potentials, Brainstem Auditory Evoked Potentials, and Somatosensory Evoked Potentials according to ACNS guidelines. - Support During Seizures:
Provides supportive patient care and detailed observations during seizures and other emergencies; notifies interpreting physicians as needed. - Customer/Peer Relations:
Works professionally with all team members and physicians; promotes teamwork with patients, families, and staff. - Departmental Protocols:
Follows all department protocols and policies. - Neurodiagnostic Equipment:
Maintains equipment in good working order; inspects for malfunctions and reports major repairs; cleans equipment per manufacturer and policy guidelines. - Continuing
Education:
Participates in annual educational programs, in-services, workshops, and relevant publications; engages in online CME as applicable. - Safety and Infection Control:
Practices universal precautions; maintains a safe environment and completes mandatory requirements; reports risk concerns. - Other duties as assigned and adherence to organizational competencies.
Skills and Abilities
Required
- High School diploma, GED, or equivalent.
- Ability to follow verbal instructions and communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
- Working knowledge of computer applications such as Microsoft or Google productivity suites.
Skills And Abilities
Preferred
- Associate s Degree in Electroneuro diagnostic Technology or equivalent.
- AHA Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers (BLS/HCP).
- Eligible for ABRET registration.
