The Structural Engineer (P.E.) at Keller is responsible for the structural analysis and design of building systems that support the firm’s architectural projects across residential, commercial, and mixed-use sectors in Florida.
This role combines strong hands-on technical expertise with collaborative engagement alongside architects, consultants, and clients to deliver safe, efficient, and code-compliant structural solutions. The Structural Engineer plays a key role in ensuring design quality, constructability, and regulatory compliance while supporting Keller’s commitment to innovative and sustainable building design.
Key Responsibilities
* 1. Structural Design and Technical Execution
* * Perform structural analysis and design for reinforced concrete, structural steel, masonry, and wood systems typical to Florida construction.
* Develop structural concepts and detailed designs for gravity and lateral load-resisting systems, including wind and seismic considerations.
* Prepare and seal structural calculations, drawings, and specifications in compliance with Florida Building Code (FBC) and applicable standards.
* Review architectural designs and coordinate structural systems to achieve efficient and constructible solutions.
* 2. Project Coordination and Delivery
* * Support projects through all phases, from conceptual design and permitting through construction.
* Coordinate closely with Keller’s architectural team, as well as external consultants, contractors, and authorities having jurisdiction (AHJs).
* Respond to RFIs, review shop drawings, and provide construction administration support.
* Assist with scope definition, schedules, and fee proposals from a structural perspective.
* 3. Quality Assurance and Code Compliance
* * Ensure all structural designs meet professional, regulatory, and ethical standards.
* Participate in internal design reviews and quality control processes.
* Maintain organized and complete project documentation, calculations, and records.
* Contribute to the continuous improvement of design standards, templates, and technical workflows.
* 4. Collaboration and Team Contribution
* * Work collaboratively within Keller’s multidisciplinary design environment.
* Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior staff as appropriate.
* Participate in design charrettes and coordination meetings to support integrated architectural and structural solutions.
* Support a culture of technical excellence, accountability, and innovation.
* 5. Client and Stakeholder Engagement
* * Participate in client meetings and technical discussions as needed.
* Provide clear, concise, and professional written and verbal communication.
* Support permitting and agency coordination processes, including responding to plan review comments.
* Contribute technical input to value engineering and constructability discussions.
* Qualifications and Experience
* * Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Structural or Civil Engineering (Master’s preferred).
* Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) in the State of Florida (required).
* Typically 7–15 years of experience in structural engineering design for building projects.
* Demonstrated experience with Florida building codes, wind design, and local permitting processes.
* Strong background in:
* Reinforced concrete design
* Structural steel design
* Masonry and wood framing (preferred)
* Revit and/or other BIM coordination tools
* Strong understanding of construction methods and detailing.
* Excellent communication, coordination, and organizational skills.
