Position: District Nurse Leader/Floating School Nurse (.5 Position)
The Holliston Public School District is looking to the fill role of a District Nurse Leader/Floating School Nurse (.5 Position). In addition to the annual salary listed, this role is eligible for an $8,000 per year stipend. The annual salary listed is the range for 2025-26 as the salary for 2026-27 has not been determined.

The District Nurse Leader plans, develops and implements the system-wide health services and programs within the parameters determined by the MDPH, the Nurse Practice Act set forth by the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing, recommendations of professional nursing organizations (i.e., NASN, MSNO) and the administration of the Holliston Public Schools. The Nurse Leader reports to the Director of Student Services.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • School nurse educator's license from the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE)
  • Bachelor's in Nursing from an accredited college or university
  • Valid license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of Massachusetts (M.G.L. c.71, s.53)
  • Current CPR certification
  • AED training from a recognized provider (such as the American Red Cross or American Heart Association)
  • Strong knowledge and demonstrated skill in working with children
  • A desire to be part of a collaborative school community
Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Performs regular obligations as a School Nurse
  • Medication delegation
  • Assist administration with the hiring and orientation of all nursing staff positions as well as maintain a current list of substitute nurses
  • Conduct Department Meetings that include changes in regulations, IHP and medication Policies
  • Implement continuing education programs
  • Disseminate MDPH information
  • Act as liaison between the School Physician and School Nurses; and in-service meetings and consultations
  • Coordinate public health problems (i.e., communicable disease outbreaks) with administration, faculty, students, parents and MDPH
  • Assist administration in the development of Student Health Policies
  • Order and maintain adequate health care supplies and school health office furnishings and equipment in all buildings
  • Available to discuss procedures, policies or problems with parents and/or staff referred by other School Nurses
  • Revise/update all medical forms on a yearly basis for the Health Offices
  • Prepare and submit annual statistics on all School Health Service Programs, as well as statistics on state-mandated programs to the MDPH
  • Arrange all nursing schedules to best accommodate the needs of each school and is responsible for assigning substitutes in the absence of a School Nurse
  • Review all accident reports and follow-up, when necessary
  • Monitor licenses and updates whenever necessary for all Nurses
  • Arrange professional development activities for staff, assist in CPR Certification of faculty and students, whenever possible; and collaborate with the Technology Department in upgrading/maintaining nurses' computers problems and Health Office software
  • Maintain Health Office page of the HPS website
  • Responsible for seeking appropriate grant money
  • Procure funding from civic groups (i.e., eye glasses, hearing aides, physical exams, etc.), when necessary
  • Be responsible for system-wide compliance with mandated health regulations. Insure complete follow-up of referrals for vision, hearing and postural screening and compliance with State Law Physical Examination requirements
  • Participate in the development of an interdisciplinary plan for each building to ensure that students in need of services are identified in a timely manner and appropriate intervention is initiated.
  • Participate in school-based and community emergency planning, professional development activities on the local, state and national level as directed by the Director of Student Services
  • Collaborate with outside agencies such as the Board of Health and local pediatricians and with school staff in health-related disciplines (i.e., health, PE, School Adjustment Counselors) to promote and maintain the health and safety of students
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Students Services.
