Unit Manager reports to and receives general direction from the Director of Nursing and is responsible for delivering quality wound care and preventative measures to maintain skin integrity to assigned residents in compliance with applicable federal and state guidelines and established policies and procedures.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
• Utilizes the nursing process by demonstrating appropriate assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of residents wound and skin integrity
• Collecting and documentation of residents’ skin status including medical history.
• Wound care prevention and prevention through plan of care
• Sets priorities for nursing action for wound care and prevention
• Communicates with physicians regarding resident wound needs
• Initiates nutritional interventions to ensure that residents with wounds are provided nutrition to promote wound healing.
• Performs direct resident care utilizing established procedure, policies, and standards
• Administer treatments and procedures in accordance with the physician’s orders
• Maintains the comfort, privacy, and dignity of each residents while performing treatments
• Communicates and interacts effectively, courteously, and tactfully with residents, visitors,
family members, peers, and supervisors
• Conducts rounds frequently to ensure that residents with incontinence are receiving pericare
and preventative ointments timely. Discipline non-compliant staff accordingly with
consultation from the DON
• Performs duties in a safe manner in accordance with established policies and procedures
• Performs all job responsibilities in accordance with prescribed safety and infection control
procedures including thorough hand washing, use of disposable gloves and proper disposal of
soiled material
Specific Duties:
- Responsible for making rounds to observe and evaluate physical, emotional and social needs of residents
- Prepares and administers medications charts as required
- Administers treatments
- Consults with physicians
- Communicates with director of nursing and staff
Job Requirements
- Long term care experience preferred
- Minimum of 2 years experience in nursing in a long term care environment
- Must be a Registered Nurse or LPN in good standing and currently licensed IN
- Ability to work with minimal supervision and strong organizational skills
- Demonstrates good judgment, problem solving and decision making skills
- Excellent communication, leadership and mentoring skills
