Assist the pharmacists in providing quality pharmaceutical care to all patients by performing technical duties in the pharmacy department, working under the supervision of the Pharmacist. Duties include retrieving prescription orders, counting, pouring, measuring and weighing tablets and medications, mixing medications, selecting the proper prescription container, creating prescription labels, maintaining patient profiles, completing cash register transactions, answering phones, taking inventory of over-the-counter medications, and staying aware of the latest medicines and their availability.
CoreResponsibilities And Essential Functions
- Prescription Filling – Data intake from patients to acquire the necessary information to properly fill a prescription; thorough in obtaining all legally required data mandated by law.
- Prescription processing – Utilize the existing computer software to process prescriptions; knowledge in dealing with third-party payers and resolving electronic adjudication issues; accurately record prescriptions dispensed; contact physicians and benefits providers as necessary; complete third-party insurance forms and related paperwork.
- Cash handling – Complete cash transactions with customers; operate POS equipment and credit card processing machines; run end-of-day reports and perform proper business closing procedures.
- Telephone transactions – Provide courteous phone service and represent the business well; maintain good telephone communication skills.
- Other duties – Provide a professional and confidential environment for customers; help ensure compliance with all Federal and State rules and regulations applicable to retail pharmacy; inventory and stock medications and supplies; maintain a safe and clean pharmacy; generate reports from the pharmacy computer system; stay knowledgeable about pharmaceuticals and OTC items; properly prepare/compound ointments and creams; stay aware of the latest medicines and their availability.

- Performs other duties as assigned and comply with Well Star Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct.
Minimum Education
- High school graduate or GED diploma from an accredited program.
- All certifications are required upon hire unless otherwise stated.
- Cert Pharmacy Tech
- Registered Pharmacy Tech
Must be licensed by the State of Georgia. Upon Hire Required.
Required Minimum ExperienceExposure/experience in all phases of retail pharmacy operations. Experience in a retail pharmacy setting including data entry into pharmacy software system, purchasing/inventory control, controlled substance documentation, data intake from customers, and good customer service skills is required.
Required Minimum Skills- Minimal typing skills; basic computer skills
- Good oral and interpersonal communication skills
- Good mentoring skills
- Ability to lift a minimum of 30 pounds
