Principal Mechanical Engineer
As a Principal Mechanical Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in developing new products and sustaining existing production contracts. This challenging position requires a blend of technical expertise, strategic thinking, and hands‑on experience in developing and sustaining products. You will be responsible for ensuring our maritime products deliver cutting‑edge performance, continuously improving our design, analysis and project planning processes and capabilities.

- Robotic Engineering
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to fellow engineers, including guiding, reviewing and approving their design work.
- Establish technical objectives, milestones, project timelines and budgets.
- Lead the simulation‑based design of marine products (FEA, Simulink, etc.).
- Develop autonomy engines using ROS 2 or equivalent.
- Develop algorithms for autonomous sensor processing, system state estimation, path planning and underwater robotic navigation and swarming.
- Develop software for RTOS.
- Development of flight control systems for underwater robots.
- Develop mechanical actuators/manipulators for underwater applications.
- Hydrodynamic design of underwater systems.
- Contribute to AI, ML and CV algorithms for classification and estimation of targets.
- Guide the team in state‑of‑the‑art utilization of version control tools (e.g. Git Hub, JIRA).
- Contribute to increasing the CMMI® capability level for software development.
- Support make‑vs‑buy decisions.
- Work with contract manufacturers to develop and execute development as well as production and testing.
- Work across engineering departments to deliver on project goals.
- Work with the quality team to implement and oversee software and electronics related testing for product quality control.
- Work with senior management to develop technology road maps, project plans and strategies.
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in software engineering, electrical engineering, or related field.
- 7+ years of experience designing, building and testing robotic systems.
- 4+ years experience in engineering within the aerospace/defense, automotive, or medical device fields.
- Working knowledge of product development methodologies such as Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), Risk management, Change Management, and Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP).
- Proficient with Microsoft suite.
- Eligible to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance.
- MS or higher in related field.
- Exposure to ISO 9001/AS 9100 quality systems.
- Experience with high‑mix low volume manufacturing and suppliers.
- Experience with electromechanical hardware.
- Experience with Python / Matlab and experimental data collection.
