The Engineering Supervisor (ES) is responsible for providing the overall leadership and direction for the engineering teams.
Location111 Stockyard Rd, Statesboro, GA or 923 W Oglethorpe Hwy, Hinesville, GA
Territory Covered: this position is responsible for both the Statesboro and Hinesville Headquarters. The successful candidate must live within commutable distance to those locations.
Please note that this job will require up to 25% travel. Relocation benefits are available if needed.
Job ResponsibilitiesLeadership expectations and responsibilities include exhibiting behaviors in alignment with the Southern Company “Our Values”, Safety First, Intentional Inclusion, Act with Integrity, and Superior Performance. The Engineering Supervisor (ES) will lead the engineering team in a Safety Excellence environment with a focus on learning how to work safely and how engineering decisions impact the safety of peers and coworkers. The ES will work to build a culture where team members feel included, valued, and free to speak up.
The ES is responsible for ensuring the development of team members, communicating business goals to the team, and providing performance management to the team. The ES will provide leadership and guidance for planning, engineering, design, and construction of all activities in the area and will help monitor and guide area-wide Distribution functional budgets, compliance, and system maintenance to ensure reliability.
This includes investigating extended or significant as well as timely addressing customer issues that arise. The ES will provide guidance to the team in dealing with customer issues (internal and external) and will communicate with upper management about customer issues. This position will work closely with the other functional departments in the area to deliver best in class, customer value, reliability and cost as well as supporting external community activities.
The ES will also serve in various SERP roles within the area and will be required to participate in SERP events across the Southern System and events off system as required. This position will also have primary responsibility for developing and executing the region wide maintenance and abnormal plan.
- Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field is strongly preferred.
- Proven commitment to Safety Excellence is required.
- Proven leadership abilities are required.
- Formal leadership experience is strongly preferred.
- Proven record of dealing effectively with customers is preferred.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in Georgia Power Transmission and/or Distribution is preferred.
- Experience working as a Distribution Engineer is preferred.
- Cross‑functional, cross‑company experience is a plus.
- Experience managing capital and O&M budgets is a plus.
- Experience with storm response and planning is preferred.
- Experience with TCMS, ARCOS, JETS, CSS, ARMS, OFS, or DISTIEW is a plus.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written.
- Articulates complex issues simply.
Leads change effectively. - Knowledge of Power Delivery operations and processes preferred.
- Knowledge of Distribution operations practices and procedures preferred.
- Ability to build strong relationships and a strong team.
- Demonstrated ability to recognize high‑profile opportunities and respond as needed without prompting.
