Join Our Team as the Assistant Planning Director
The Town of Hilton Head Island is seeking an experienced and visionary Assistant Planning Director to support and enhance the Planning Department’s commitment to community growth, development, and environmental stewardship. This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the Town's strategic planning, zoning, and development goals in alignment with the community’s values and regulations.
About the Role:
As the Assistant Planning Director, you will play a critical role in guiding the Town's planning and development efforts. This includes assisting in the management of the Planning Department’s operations, overseeing long-range planning projects, coordinating growth management initiatives, and ensuring compliance with relevant federal, state, and local regulations. You will also support staff development, work collaboratively with stakeholders, and foster the implementation of the Town’s Comprehensive Plan, Land Management Ordinance, and building codes.
You Wil Do
- Assist in strategic direction and compliance efforts within the department
- Ensure compliance of the Land Management Ordinance, Building Codes, Community Rating System and Flood Hazard Mitigation programs
- Supervise and mentor assigned staff, enhancing team effectiveness and performance
- Coordinate department activities with other Town departments and external agencies
- Meet and interact with citizens, city, state, and federal officials and other stakeholders regarding community development programs and activities
- Represent the Town on regional boards and in community meetings
- Support disaster recovery efforts
- Bachelor’s degree in Planning or related field, plus eight (8) years of related experience in senior management, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Valid Driver’s License
- Extensive knowledge of planning, zoning, community development, and relevant regulations
- Proven leadership ability with experience in staff supervision and project management
