Job Title: Post Anesthesia Care Unit Registered Nurse (PACU RN) – Variable Shifts

Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled PACU Registered Nurse (PACU RN) to provide care for patients in pre-operative, Phase I, and Phase II recovery. This role requires strong critical care knowledge, the ability to monitor post-surgical patients, and collaboration with surgical and anesthesia teams to ensure safe recovery and positive patient outcomes.

Assignment Details:

• Contract duration: 26 weeks
• Schedule:
  
  Variable shifts (8, 10, or 12 hours) including Days, Evenings, Nights, Weekends, and Holidays
• Setting: PACU / Ambulatory Surgery Unit (ASU)
• No guarantee of hours or shift preference
• On-call requirement:
  Approximately 0–3 times per month (night and weekend/holiday call)
• EMR: EPIC
• Holiday coverage required

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide pre-operative care and post-anesthesia recovery (Phase I & II)
• Monitor airway, vital signs, pain levels, incision sites, and recovery progress
• Identify complications and implement appropriate interventions
• Administer medications and manage pain control therapies
• Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia providers, and interdisciplinary teams
• Educate patients and families on recovery and discharge instructions
• Maintain accurate documentation in the electronic medical record

Equipment / Systems Used:

• Patient monitoring systems
• IV infusion and PCA pumps
• Medication dispensing systems
• Compression and warming devices
• Specialty post-operative recovery equipment

Requirements:

• Active State RN license required by start of assignment (must apply upon offer if not currently active)
• Minimum 2 years of PACU experience preferred
• Critical care RN experience (ER or ICU) may be accepted in place of PACU experience
• Ability to work variable shifts, on-call, weekends, and holidays

Required Certifications:

• Basic Life Support (BLS/BCLS)
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)

Recommended / Preferred Certifications:

• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
• Trauma certification (e.g., TNCC)

Additional Requirements:

• Proof of flu vaccination or approved exemption prior to contract start (may be completed during employee health clearance)
• Must complete onboarding and required employee health appointment prior to start
