Duties SummaryAs a fully competent professional librarian in a Correctional Facility
, perform the full range of professional services in a service or functional area; generally serve as the librarian responsible for providing the full range of professional services within a particular service area; catalog and classify materials presenting the full range of cataloging problems; and perform other related duties as assigned.
To qualify, you must meet all of the following requirements:
Legal Authorization To WorkThe State of Hawaii requires all persons seeking employment with the government of the State to be citizens, nationals, or permanent resident aliens of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States.
EducationA bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited four-year college or university.
Professional Librarian ExperienceOne and one-half years of progressively responsible professional experience in one or more major functional areas of librarianship (e.g., selection, acquisition, cataloging and classification of materials, collection development and maintenance, reference and readers' advisory services, or development and promotion of library services), which required the application of principles, practices, knowledge, theories and tools of library science.
Master's Degree in Library ScienceA master's degree in Library Science from a regionally accredited college or university who is accredited by the American Library Association (ALA) will be deemed to have met all the education and experience requirements for Librarian III.
NoteApplicants who are in their last semester and will graduate and meet the Minimum Qualification Requirements upon graduation will be accepted for examination. If you are in the last semester and graduating with a Master of Library Science degree, please submit a copy of your official transcript of coursework completed thus far and a letter from your department head or registrar verifying your current enrollment in school, your expected graduation date and major with your application.

Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) RequirementAs required by the Prison Rape Elimination Act of 2003 (PREA), Federal law states that "...an agency shall not hire or promote anyone who may have contact with inmates and who:
- Has engaged in sexual abuse in a prison, jail, lockup, community confinement facility, juvenile facility or other institution.
- Has been convicted of engaging or attempting to engage in sexual activity in the community facilitated by force, overt or implied threats of force, or coercion, or if the victim did not consent or was unable to consent or refuse.
- Has been civilly or administratively adjudicated to have engaged in the activity described in #2 above.
- Has been the subject of substantiated allegations of sexual abuse or sexual harassment or resigned during a pending investigation of alleged sexual abuse or sexual harassment.
