The Department of Environmental Services, Refuse Collection and Disposal Division is hiring an Energy Recovery Engineer to assist the Energy Recovery Administrator with monitoring the operating contractor's performance at the H-POWER (Honolulu Program of Waste Energy Recovery) waste-to-energy plant.

• Monitor daily plant operations to ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements, and advise operators of any deficiencies.
• Prepare technical recommendations for intermediate and long-range waste-to-energy program goals.
• Maintain engineering records to track waste processing quality and quantities.
• Analyze system performance to ensure energy recovery, capacity, environmental, and weight reduction targets are met.
• Monitor contract compliance and coordinate corrective actions when needed.
• Act as an engineering liaison with internal teams, government agencies, haulers, and the public.
• Perform other related duties as needed.

• Daily work requires inspections of industrial site, requires use of such safety equipment on a full time basis as: hard hat, safety glasses, climbing belt, safety shoes, and periodic use of various types of respirators, as well as knowledge on use of emergency chemical showers/eye wash equipment, etc.

At time of application, you must be a citizen, national or permanent resident alien of the United States or a non-citizen eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment.

Equivalent to graduation from a regionally-accredited four year college or university with a bachelor’s degree in an engineering specialty.

Education obtained outside of the United States must be comparable to a degree earned at an accredited college/university in the United States. In order to receive credit for the education, a foreign credential evaluation (FCE) must be provided. One (1) year of registered professional engineering experience in the planning, design, and/or operation of a large oil, coal, waste, or nuclear fueled power plant.
