DESCRIPTION:

The P SF FORECASTING Department of the P INTEGRATED GRID PLANNING Division at Hawaiian Electric Company has 2 Management vacancy available. This position may be filled on Oahu, Maui, or Hawaii Island. (Role: Professional)

This posting seeks to fill at either the Energy Forecaster or Senior Energy Forecaster; whichever level is most suited to the qualifications of the applying candidate.

ASSOCIATE ENERGY FORECASTER

JOB FUNCTION: Supports the Energy Forecasters and Senior Energy Forecasters with the energy planning and analyses efforts related to the development of the energy and demand forecasts for the Oʻahu, Hawaiʻi Island, and Maui County systems that support the strategic and operational planning initiatives. Provides technical support with expanded assignments in the Company's corporate planning initiatives and policies.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Assists with the development of the Company’s long-term kilowatt hour sales, customer and peak demand forecasts. Analyzes information, data, statistics, and prepares annual short-term kilowatt hour sales, peaks and customer forecasts by rate schedule and by company division. Monitors and coordinates sales trends and provides monthly kilowatthour sales variance reports and analysis.
  • Supports the company-wide efforts in the long-range resource planning activities. Works with the company’s planning departments to develop strategies and scenarios for analysis, facilitate discussion and develop strategies for presentation of the analytical results at internal and external meetings.
  • Researches and evaluates political, regulatory, and technical changes and advancements related to the Company’s long-range resource planning including renewable energy, energy efficiency, demand response and renewable substitution technologies.
  • Plans and carries out complex or innovative analysis resulting in the development of new or improved techniques and procedures as it relates to market research, monitoring and evaluation of demand-side management (DSM) programs, and load studies. Provides technical support to the department staff in the development and maintenance of databases and data analysis methods.
  • Contributes written testimony, exhibits, and work papers to support the reasonableness of forecasts and forecast methods for rate cases, and other regulatory filings.
  • Participates in Company emergency response activities as assigned, including any activities required to prepare for such emergency response.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in statistics, planning, economics, engineering or other related field.
  • Working knowledge of statistical analysis methods (e.g., regression, ARIMA, etc.) normally acquired through college level courses or equivalent experience.
  • Working knowledge of basic power system concepts such as power vs. energy, generation, transmission, and distribution.
  • Thorough knowledge of personal computers and related software applications including spreadsheets, presentation and graphics software, word processing, statistical modeling, and database managers.
  • Working knowledge of state and federal laws and regulations as related to the Company’s corporate goals planning process.
  • Working knowledge of utility economic analysis, rates and tariffs, scenario planning, clean energy corporate goals and initiatives.
