Position: CNC Lathe Setup / Operator

CNC Machinist (Setup / Operator)

Join Belden Universal and build your career in advanced manufacturing. We are seeking a CNC Setup / Operator lathe machinist who is eager to learn and grow. In this role, you will work side‑by‑side with experienced machinists to manufacture universal joints and drive shafts, setting up and operating CNC turning centers. Base Pay Range: $23.00/hr – $27.00/hr

Shift Information

Ideally for the swing shift (9 AM to 6:30 PM, 45 hours per week). Can also be filled by someone available for the first shift (6 AM to 2:30 PM, 40 hours per week).

Responsibilities
  • Plan machining by studying work orders, blueprints, materials, specifications, locations of surfaces, and machining parameters; interpret geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD&T).
  • Program multi‑spindle lathes by entering instructions, including zero and reference points, setting tool registers, offsets, compensation, and conditional switches; calculate requirements, including basic math, geometry, and trigonometry; prove part programs.
  • Set up lathes by installing and adjusting various types of tools.
  • Load feed mechanism by lifting stock into position.
  • Verify settings by measuring positions, first‑run part, and sample work pieces; adhere to international standards.
  • Maintain specifications by observing drilling, grooving, and cutting, including turning, facing, knurling, and thread chasing operations; take measurements; detect malfunctions; troubleshoot processes; adjust and reprogram controls; sharpen and replace worn tools; adhere to quality assurance procedures and processes.
  • Maintain safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations.
  • Maintain equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; follow manufacturer’s instructions; troubleshoot malfunctions.
  • Document actions by completing production and quality logs.
Qualifications
  • Minimum 5 years of experience on CNC turning centers (Swiss turning preferred).
  • Proficiency in G‑code programming.
  • Conceptual and process improvement skills.
  • Strong verbal communication.
  • Technical and functional skills in controls and instrumentation.
  • Tooling coordination.
