Position: Nursing Assistant I (Per Diem) - Family Medicine Unit, Hillsborough Hospital

Description

This is a 6 hour per week rotating position; working 12 hour Day and Night shift (7:00am - 7:30pm & 7:00pm - 7:30 am) with weekend and holiday rotation.

This position requires the ability to attend a week long orientation (Monday through Friday, 7:30am-5:00pm) which is offered every two weeks.

The 2nd Floor Family Medicine Unit is a 20-bed inpatient unit which cares for a varied patient population to include predominantly family medicine patients, but also observation, extended recovery from PACU, and other medical-surgical patients. As part of the team, you will help in assisting the team to facilitate admissions, treatments, transfer and discharge of patients.

Responsibilities

Provide routine direct and indirect patient care in a hospital, clinic or home health care setting under the direct supervision of a registered nurse or physician.

In the psychiatric setting, aid patients in reality orientation, participate in behavior modification plans/therapy, provide informal support therapy to patients/families, provide verbal de-escalation of potentially aggressive patients, aid in the physical management of aggressive/out-of-control patients, facilitate age-appropriate play for children, and monitor the therapeutic milieu activities on assigned unit to ensure that emotional and safety needs of patients are met.

Observe, collect, and document patient information obtained while providing care and promptly report significant changes in the patient s condition to a registered nurse or physician.

Provide assistance to patients and their families during admission to the clinical area, orientation to the hospital/clinic/home health experience, and discharge.

Provide care/treatments to patients as outlined in plan of care including, but not limited to, measurement of vital signs, height and weight, specimen collection, skin preps/scrubs, catheter care, capillary blood glucose checks, simple wound care, range of motion exercises, postural drainage, and supportive patient and family interactions.

Provide direct personal care to patients as outlined in plan of care for routine activities of daily living such as bathing, dressing, feeding and assisting with ambulation.

Provide indirect care to patients and the assigned area including cleaning the work area, changing linens, restocking supplies, cleaning/sterilizing instruments, transporting patients/supplies/specimens, assisting in the orientation of new employees and students, and some routine clerical functions.

Reinforce routine teaching given to patients by the registered nurse or physician and document patient understanding of instructions. Distributes patient education materials at the request of patients and/or health care providers.

Education Requirements:

None required as long as all other position requirements are met.

Licensure/Certification Requirements:

Listed as Nursing Assistant I with the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification

Professional Experience Requirements:

Prefer six (6) months of nursing assistant experience

Knowledge/Skills/and Abilities Requirements:

Fluent in verbal and written English language and able to develop basic computer skills.
