Overview
The 2nd Floor Family Medicine Unit is a 20-bed inpatient unit that provides care for a varied patient population including family medicine patients, observation, recovery from PACU, and other medical‑surgical patients. In this role you will assist the team with admissions, treatments, transfers, and discharges.
This position is per diem (PRN) with self‑scheduling to meet unit needs.
UNC Health Care Hillsborough Campus is a community hospital extending UNC Medical Center’s programs. The hospital offers a 163‑bed facility with Joint Commission accreditation for Total Hip and Knee Replacement, a Dementia Friendly designation, Press Ganey Guardian of Excellence, and free parking for employees.

SummaryProvides competent clinical nursing care consistent with professional standards. Reporting to the Nurse Manager/Director, the Clinical Nurse is responsible for coordinating and delivering patient care using the nursing process in a hospital setting.
Responsibilities- Education: Participates in identifying and meeting learning needs of self. Attends education programs relevant to patient population. Uses patient education materials and assesses readiness to learn of the patient/family/caregivers.
- Evaluation of Care: Identifies expected patient outcomes, seeks guidance to revise the plan of care, participates in interdisciplinary discussions, and communicates information to promote continuity of care.
- Implementation: Demonstrates competence in caring for patients with complex problems, performs bedside point‑of‑care testing, utilizes nursing standards and policies, prioritizes care, and consults resources for complex and high‑risk discharge planning.
- Leadership: Helps develop professional growth goals, collaborates on unit goals and performance improvement, uses communication systems, promotes cost‑effective care, provides feedback, and ensures a safe, clean environment.
- Patient Assessment: Recognizes complex priorities for care, includes physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety needs, and anticipates discharge needs.
- Planning: Collaborates with patient/family to prepare or update the plan of care, uses multidisciplinary resources, communicates planning, addresses cultural issues, and prioritizes tasks for complex problems.
- Research: Reads applicable journals, brings ideas to staff for assessment of applicability.
Education Requirements: Graduation from a professional nursing school.
Licensure/Certification Requirements: Registered Nurse license in North Carolina;
Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification.
