Description: Conducts routine procedures and tests using radiology equipment to acquire patient diagnostic data. Prepares for and assists the radiologist in completion of intricate radiographic procedures including preparation and administration of contrast media and medications in accordance with state and federal regulations. Performs patient assessments and provides patient care. Evaluates the appropriateness of examination and assesses the quality of radiographic images.

This position qualifies for a $15,000 commitment incentive which will be paid over a three (3) year work commitment.

Hours: Friday, Saturday, Sunday 7am-7:30pm

Responsibilities
  • Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of all aspects of General Diagnostic Radiology, adheres to Departmental Protocols and Policy and Procedures of UNC Healthcare System, obtains RT(R) credentials and maintains Active Status using technical knowledge and ability to assist in troubleshooting work unit problems with respect to equipment and protocols.
  • Ensures patient demographic, emulsion markers, and examination requested are correct, critiques, orients and saves all pertinent images, transmits QA-ed images to PACS, ensures images reach PACS, documents completion and/or cancellation of all procedures in RIS, documents comments when appropriate, maintains image management equipment, reports equipment problems to appropriate resources, utilizes PACS and HIS systems for obtaining additional study data.
  • Conducts routine procedures and tests using radiology equipment to acquire patient diagnostic data.
  • Performs work in a timely manner, produces quality radiographic images on a consistent basis, analyzes requests and information to determine examination and action plan, reviews radiographic orders and images and correlates patient demographic information, ensures information accuracy, reviews daily schedule and patient status, maintains a clean and safe work environment, documents incidents and advises area supervisor of improvement opportunities.
  • Uses RIS, CIS, PACS and SMS to access information and document procedure status, modifies orders for appropriateness, completes exam in RIS, QC's and transmits information to PACS, verifies information arrives properly into PACS.
  • Verifies patient identity, obtains relevant patient history, verifies pregnancy status before administering ionizing radiation, assesses patient condition and develops an action plan, determines if additional medical personnel or equipment are needed, assists patients requiring extra attention, responds to emergencies, ensures patient safety.
Qualifications
  • Education: Associate's degree or completion of an accredited Radiologic Sciences Program. If degree is not yet complete, candidates may be selected contingent on completing a degree program within 90 days of hire.
  • Licensure/Certification: Registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists or registry-eligible and registered within one year from date of hire. Registry-eligible candidates must provide a copy of diploma from an accredited program. Must maintain registry status and continuing education annually. Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification.
  • Professional

    Experience:

    Two years of experience as a Radiologic Technologist. Meets the Radiologic Technologist II Competency Checklist and maintains Tech II duties annually.
  • Knowledge/

    Skills:

    Knowledgeable of radiation protection and safety in addition to general and electrical safety, infection control, TB and standard precautions.

To be eligible for promotion, candidates must meet all Radiology Tech I requirements and the following criteria: two years of experience as a Radiologic Technologist, completion of the Tech II proficiency checklist and maintenance of Tech II duties annually, and successful completion of the probationary period.
