Overview
The Orange County Health Department has an opening for Certified Medical Assistant. The work is primarily responsible for supporting the nurses, physicians and Advanced Practice Providers in the medical clinic, provide patient intake, prepare exam rooms, and perform lab duties as back up for the laboratory technician as needed. This position performs a variety of tasks, including but not limited to, direct patient care, preparing examination rooms, assisting with laboratory duties, vaccine administration, client education, and treatments as directed by providers.
Responsibilities- Provide direct patient care as directed by providers.
- Support nurses, physicians, and Advanced Practice Providers in the medical clinic.
- Provide patient intake and prepare examination rooms.
- Assist with laboratory duties and serve as back up for the laboratory technician as needed.
- Administer vaccines, provide client education, and assist with treatments as directed by providers.
Work is performed under the general supervision of the Nursing Supervisor with some leeway to exercise independent judgment within the framework of applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures. Supervision is not a responsibility of this class. Does related work as required.

Full job specifications, including essential functions, knowledge, skills, abilities and physical requirements:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS- Graduation from High School or General Educational Development (GED) test equivalency AND
- vocational/technical training in an CAAHEP or ABHES-accredited Associate’s degree, certificate or diploma medical assistant program AND
- one (1) year of medical office experience; AND
Possession of the Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) credential through the American Association of Medical Assistants.
Bilingual in Spanish is strongly preferred.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS- Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of North Carolina for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
- All offers of employment are conditional upon successful clearance of a background check and pre-employment drug testing. Employment cannot commence until the employee has been cleared.
- Must be able to satisfy ongoing continuing education requirements.
- In accordance with Section 28 of the Orange County Code of Ordinances, and/or relevant State and Federal statutes, candidates for employment may be required to undergo fingerprinting and a criminal history background check based on the job responsibilities of the position. A fingerprinting check is conducted by the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) and a criminal history background check is conducted by an authorized Federal or State regulatory agency to determine eligibility for appointment.
Employment is contingent upon successful clearance through these checks, which are mandated for certain roles depending on the nature of the job and applicable laws. - Further, all offers of employment are contingent upon the satisfactory verification of your eligibility for employment, successful completion of the required pre-employment testing and/or screening, including drug testing when required and the submission and approval of all new hire documentation and completion of your new hire paperwork.
