General Function:
The Swim Instructor serves members through swimming sessions. S/he builds relationships with members and program participants through effective and positive customer service while providing a safe instructional environment.
- Engage all members/participants in a professional and courteous manner: greet and say hello to participants in the aquatics area and learn members’ names; listen and be accessible to questions and comments; follow up as needed; engage members on new classes and changes.
- Maintain proper functioning and cleanliness; report malfunctions of water area/equipment to supervisor.
- Redirect members on cell phones to front lobby.
- Adhere to and incorporate the YMCA values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility; educate members about the YMCA mission and goals.
- Comply with all Somerset Hills YMCA Policies and Procedures.
- Attend trainings, seminars and meetings as required.
- Arrive five minutes before shift starts.
- Wear appropriate and professional uniform/attire.
- All other duties as assigned.
- 1+ year experience in teaching swim lessons.
- Proven track record in attracting and retaining new clients/participants.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- YSL and/or WSI certification.
- Current Bloodborne Pathogens certification.
- SH YMCA Child Abuse Prevention Training within 30 days of hire.
- SH YMCA New Staff Orientation Training within 90 days of hire.
