Civil Project Engineer

Job Description

Kyle Conti Construction (KCC) is seeking a Project Engineer with proven heavy civil experience to support complex infrastructure projects across highways, bridges, environmental work, rail and transit, ports and marine, site development, and public‐sector/DOT work. This role is for construction professionals who have already built heavy civil projects in the field and want to grow toward full project management responsibility; candidates without clear heavy civil infrastructure experience are discouraged from applying.

Role Focus

• Support Project Managers and Superintendents in planning, sequencing, and executing heavy civil and environmental projects from preconstruction through close‐out.
• Assist in developing and maintaining project schedules, tracking critical path activities, and coordinating with field teams to keep work on schedule.
• Monitor field progress, quantities, and productivity; help identify constraints, coordinate resolutions, and document impacts to schedule and cost.
• Coordinate subcontractors, suppliers, and vendors, ensuring scopes are clear, work is sequenced correctly, and deliverables are tracked.
• Manage project documentation, including RFIs, submittals, shop drawings, meeting minutes, daily reports, and as‐builts.
• Support change management by helping to identify changes, develop pricing, track impacts, and process change orders.
• Participate in estimating, budgeting, and quantity takeoffs for pursuits, change orders, and self‐perform work.
• Assist with project close‐out activities such as punch lists, O&M manuals, and turnover documentation.

Required Heavy Civil Background (Non‐Negotiable)

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a closely related field.
• 5–7 years of experience in heavy civil construction as a Project Engineer, Field Engineer, or similar role, specifically on infrastructure projects such as highways, bridges, rail and transit, ports and marine, environmental remediation, site/civil, or public works/DOT.
• Hands‐on experience supporting field operations, including earthwork, structures, utilities, concrete, and related civil scopes.
• Strong understanding of construction documents, plans, and specifications, with the ability to translate them into clear work packages and field direction.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and project components with minimal supervision in a fast‐paced, schedule‐driven environment.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office; exposure to scheduling software (Primavera P6 or similar) and construction management platforms is a plus.
• Solid grasp of construction processes, cost tracking, quantity reporting, and project documentation.
• Excellent communication, organization, and leadership skills, with the confidence to interface with field crews, subcontractors, and project stakeholders.

Candidates whose experience is primarily residential, light commercial, interior fit‐out, or non‐civil sectors without substantial heavy civil infrastructure work will not be considered and should refrain from applying.
