Job SummaryThe Coordinator of Instructional Design provides leadership and oversight for instructional design services, faculty development initiatives, and the effective use of the institution’s learning management system (LMS) and related educational technologies. Reporting to the Director of Learning Innovation, this position supervises a team of instructional designers, learning technologists, and support specialists to ensure high-quality course design, technology integration, and faculty training that enhance teaching and learning across all modalities.
The coordinator collaborates closely with academic departments, Information Technology Services, and other campus partners to promote innovative, evidence-based instructional practices and support the institution’s strategic goals for teaching excellence and digital learning.
Bachelor’s degree in Instructional Design, Educational Technology or related field; plus three (3) years of relevant experience, or a combination of education and experience yielding the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
ExperienceExperience in higher education, particularly in curriculum development, academic affairs, or instructional technology.
Core Duties and Required Knowledge- Supervise and mentor instructional design and learning technology staff, providing direction, feedback, and professional development opportunities.
- Manage project workflows, priorities, and timelines for course design and faculty support initiatives.
- Collaborate with the Director of Learning Innovation on strategic planning, resource allocation, and assessment of instructional support services.
- Oversee the design and development of engaging, accessible, and pedagogically sound learning experiences in online, hybrid, and face-to-face courses.
- Guide and support faculty in the use of instructional design principles, learning outcomes alignment, assessment strategies, and active learning techniques.
- Lead or coordinate faculty workshops, training sessions, and consultations focused on effective teaching and the use of educational technologies.
- Oversee daily operations and administration of the LMS, ensuring functionality, reliability, and user satisfaction.
- Coordinate with Information Technology Services on LMS integrations, updates, and issue resolution.
- Support reporting and analytics related to course usage, engagement, and learning outcomes.
- Evaluate and recommend emerging instructional technologies aligned with institutional teaching and learning goals.
- Lead pilot projects to test new tools, pedagogical approaches, or technology-enhanced teaching models.
- Promote best practices in the ethical, effective use of digital tools, including generative AI and other learning technologies.
- Partner with academic departments, faculty, and administrative offices to identify instructional needs and develop targeted support.
- Collect and analyze feedback and performance data to improve instructional design services and technology adoption.
- Contribute to campus-wide initiatives that advance teaching innovation, digital literacy, and inclusive learning environments.
- Knowledge of accessibility standards and compliance requirements.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite and data handling via CSV files.
- Basic understanding of web design and HTML.
- Leads online instructional design projects from inception to completion.
- Evaluates and recommends emerging technologies and instructional strategies.
- Maintains documentation for program review and accreditation processes.
- Collaborate with faculty, staff, and community organizations to promote programs and maintain positive relationships.
- Support team efforts by contributing to a positive workplace environment.
