RN, INPATIENT, OFN-PACU On Call, Variable Shift

RN position in inpatient care with on-call, variable shift responsibilities. Under general supervision and in collaboration with the health care team, uses clinical judgment to diagnose and treat health problems. Responsible for assessing, planning, directing, providing and evaluating nursing care for patients and coordinating care activities with other health care disciplines.

Responsibilities
  • Assessment:
    Performs multi-system assessments (biophysical, psychosocial, environmental, self-care, education needs, discharge planning). Identifies deviations from normal on routine lab tests. Reassesses patient throughout hospitalization. Performs complete discharge assessment.
  • Planning:
    Develops an individualized nursing plan of care sensitive to patient developmental needs. Coordinates patient care activities and discharge planning with departments and community agencies. Develops patient teaching plan and documents on care/teaching plans. Delegates appropriately based on patient condition and scope of practice. Establishes priorities and classifies acuity level.
  • Implementation:
    Initiates appropriate measures based on protocol for medical/surgical patients. Documents in the EMR and follows the physician’s plan of care. Utilizes a multidisciplinary approach when appropriate. Performs procedures correctly, uses teaching plans for patient education, administers medications accurately, and initiates measures in emergency situations.
  • Evaluation:
    Evaluates the effectiveness of assessment methods, plan of care, and patient response to treatment. Participates in unit quality assurance activities.
Experience

Basic Qualifications
:

  • Minimum nine (9) months of RN experience.
  • Two (2) to five (5) years of critical care experience.
Education
  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
License, Certification, Registration
  • Registered Nurse License (Oregon)
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (within 6 months of hire)
  • NIH Stroke Scale Certificate (within 6 months of hire)
  • Basic Life Support
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support required at hire
Additional Requirements
  • Computer keyboarding skills
  • Advanced patient assessment skills
  • Able to coordinate care of up to two post-anesthesia patients at a time
  • Able to respond to crisis situations calmly and appropriately
  • Able to work collaboratively with other members of the surgical team
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous health care experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing or related field
  • Two (2) to five (5) years of PACU experience preferred
  • PALS and NIHSS preferred upon hire/transfer
