About the Opportunity
Washington County Public Health Division seeks Breastfeeding Peer Counselors (Bilingual: Spanish/English, Ukrainian/English, Dari/English, and Non‑bilingual) to join our Women, Infants & Children (WIC) Program. In this role you will provide parent‑to‑parent breastfeeding support for prenatal and postpartum WIC parents, deliver basic breastfeeding information, encourage participants, and refer them to the Breastfeeding Peer Counseling Coordinator/IBCLC or other appropriate resources. Counseling can occur both virtually and face‑to‑face.

Job Type: Variable Hour – up to 20 hours per week, depending on needs.
Pay Range: $17.85 – $21.73 per hour.
Department: Health and Human Services.
FLSA Exemption: Non‑Exempt.
Work Schedule: Hybrid schedule with in‑office attendance at WIC sites in Beaverton, Hillsboro, and Tigard; includes evenings, weekends, and overnight text‑message support on a rotation basis.
Responsibilities- Provide parent‑to‑parent breastfeeding support to prenatal and postpartum WIC participants, both virtually and in‑person.
- Offer basic breastfeeding information and encouragement; refer participants to the Breastfeeding Peer Counseling Coordinator/IBCLC or other designated staff when needed.
- Support participants outside the clinic hours and environment.
- Document meeting notes and manage workload, tasks, and deadlines.
- Communicate effectively with participants using digital platforms and in‑person.
- Advocate for diverse communities in Washington, Clackamas, Marion, Tillamook, Polk, and neighboring counties.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Meeting WIC Policy 716 and USDA program requirements.
- Experience with WIC services or as a WIC participant preferred.
- Ability to speak, read, and write Spanish, Ukrainian, Dari fluently (preferred but not required).
- Familiarity with community resources (healthcare, social services, language support).
- Strong communication, emotional support, time‑management and organizational skills.
- Must pass a background check.
- Positions that meet Bilingual proficiency will receive a 5% differential or $75 per pay period.
- Applicants must not hold licensed credentials such as IBCLC, RD, RN; acceptable credentials include CHW, CLE, CLC, doula.
- Applicants must have lived with a baby breastfeeding for at least six months (or equivalent experience).
