About the Opportunity

This role involves processing building permits, assisting the public with applications, and providing information on county regulations. Responsibilities include reviewing and issuing permits, maintaining records, calculating fees, and ensuring timely application processing. The position also supports inspectors, tracks permit approvals, and promotes a positive, inclusive work environment while ensuring compliance with county codes.

  • Skills to work accurately under pressure and time constraints
  • Skills to deal positively with the public in tense and difficult situations
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships
  • Ability to provide information to the general public regarding the building permit process, requirements, codes, and inspection procedures
Minimum Qualifications Building Permit Tech II

Education and Experience:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent AND Two (2) years of experience in processing building permit applications OR
  • Two (2) years of experience in administrative support and customer service experience related to land use regulations, the building process, the construction industry, drafting, or mapping AND One (1) year of experience in processing building permit applications.
Special Qualifications
  • Must have the ability to arrange for timely transportation in order to attend appointments and meetings at locations throughout the State of Oregon.
  • Possession of International Code Council (ICC) permit technician certification.
Building Permit Tech I

Education and Experience:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent AND One (1) year of administrative support and customer service experience related to land use regulations, the building process, the construction industry, drafting, or mapping.
    OR
  • One year equivalency of college-level course work in construction technology, blueprint reading, drafting, and building inspection
Special Qualifications
  • Must have the ability to arrange for timely transportation in order to attend appointments and meetings at locations throughout the State of Oregon.
