Manufacturing Engineer (Contract-to-hire)

Sigma Design has collaborated with an Electronics Manufacturer seeking an experienced Component Engineer to join their facility in Hillsboro, Oregon. This company is a well-established electronics manufacturer in the Hillsboro area specializing in high-reliability products for advanced technology and industrial applications. This position is contract-to-hire and is Hybrid.

While on contract you are eligible for:

Primary Function

The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for supporting the development, implementation, and maintenance of manufacturing methods for high-reliability printed circuit board assemblies (PCBAs) and electronic systems. This role focuses on defining efficient processes, supporting production, and resolving manufacturing and quality issues while partnering closely with program teams, production, and quality stakeholders.

Responsibilities
  • Perform moderate to complex manufacturing engineering activities under limited to general supervision in support of PCBAs and electronic systems
  • Define manufacturing methods, processes, sequences, and tooling for the assembly and rework of PCBAs and electronic systems
  • Develop and document processes and tooling for cable and harness assemblies, including cutting, stripping, bending, terminating, crimping, tinning, twisting, labeling, and harnessing
  • Provide design-for-manufacturability (DFM) and manufacturing technology support to internal and external stakeholders
  • Partner with program management to support customer requirements, schedules, and expectations
  • Support quoting activities by collaborating with estimating teams to generate manufacturing input for PCBAs and electronic systems
  • Work closely with production teams to support day-to-day manufacturing operations and resolve issues
  • Collaborate with management, production, quality, and customers to prevent or resolve manufacturing and quality concerns
  • Conduct root-cause failure analysis for defects, process issues, and returned products (RMA)
  • Apply routine and advanced problem-solving techniques to address process and product quality issues
  • Research, evaluate, and help introduce new and advanced manufacturing technologies
  • Lead or support continuous improvement initiatives and root-cause analysis efforts
  • Generate, maintain, and audit engineering and production documentation to ensure process compliance
  • Perform internal audits to assess the effectiveness of documented manufacturing processes
  • Follow Business Technology policies to protect sensitive data and reduce information security occurrences
Education and Experience (Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities)
  • Bachelor's Degree in Manufacturing, Mechanical, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical discipline required
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience with electronic manufacturing processes and technologies. Strong understanding of electronic components, printed circuit boards, printed circuit board assemblies, and electronic systems
  • Advanced ability to read and interpret assembly drawings, bills of materials (BOMs), and other product design documentation
  • Working knowledge of statistical process control (SPC), quality systems, and quality methods
  • Professional-level verbal, written, and presentation communication skills
  • Proficiency with PCs and common engineering tools (e.g., CAD) and Microsoft Office applications
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and coordinate multiple projects and priorities simultaneously
  • ITAR - Permanent resident of the United States ("U.S. person" as defined by ITAR)
  • Background and drug screen - pass a post-offer background verification and drug screen
Work Environment

Standard office environment with normal amounts of office related conditions. Occasionally may be required to work in environmental conditions that emulate typical user environments in order to facilitate design testing and validation. Occasionally may be required to travel as required to other facilities, clients, or suppliers.
