Job Summary
Critical Operations Technician I at QTS Data Centers.
Responsible for installation, repair, and maintenance of IT, electrical, mechanical, plumbing/piping equipment, machinery and controls. Monitor operations and conduct routine assessment of building systems. Perform tests, rounds, and analyze data to ensure proper functioning of departmental equipment. Support customers on‑site and via telephone, manage tickets, communicate and elevate alerts to systems engineers, and complete tasks related to computer hardware, software or operation systems.
On‑site work hours in 24x7x365 data center environment. Not eligible for remote/hybrid work.
- Apply learning, knowledge, skills, and company policies to tasks involving IT, electrical, mechanical equipment, controls, and operating systems.
- Lead, maintain, monitor, and perform preventive maintenance on mechanical and electrical equipment; record readings and adjust as necessary.
- Provide remote hands and eyes services for customers.
- Provide high‑level computer hardware and software configuration support; install suite wall, cage material, ladder rack, fiber tray, cabinets, cabling, and customer equipment based on documentation and procedures.
- Install and repair IT, mechanical, and electrical equipment; assist other team members with major repairs and maintenance.
- Process work orders for preventative and corrective maintenance on critical, building, and site infrastructure.
- Create and update tickets to address customer calls, data center facility, network and/or system related alerts.
- Operate and monitor critical and non‑critical system equipment and components.
- Respond to building emergencies and customer requests.
- Comply with departmental policy for safe storage, usage, and disposal of hazardous materials.
- Use Change Management Process to get approval for preventative and corrective maintenance; complete maintenance and documentation using QTS process and software.
- Two or more years of technical training, military training, or workplace equivalency.
- Background in areas of IT, electrical, and/or mechanical.
- Proficiency with MS Office Suite.
- One or more years of work experience in data center environment, NOC, or equivalent.
- BOD OEM (Panduit, Corning), A+, Network+, BICSI Installer I certifications.
- Customer focus with excellent interpersonal skills.
- Ability to analyze operations of various systems, determine cause of problems and malfunctions, and take corrective action.
- Strong written, verbal and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to function in a team environment.
- Ability to pass job‑related skills assessments.
- Computer skills and familiarity with MS Office, Outlook, and web‑based computer applications.
- Ability to acquire and apply job‑related knowledge within set guidelines and expectations.
