Field Service Engineer – Automation Tools (Semiconductor)
Location: Hillsboro, OR

Pay: $38–$40/hour
Employment Type: Contract-to-perm hire (temporary, dual type)
Manpower Engineering is looking for an Automation Tool Field Service Engineer for our Hillsboro, OR semiconductor manufacturing client. The Service Engineer installs and supports automation tools such as robots, motion control systems, PLCs, and other equipment. Support work is primarily remote via phone or laptop; onsite presence is required only when a machine fails.
Must live within 45 minutes of Hillsboro, OR.
Primary Duties- This role is on‑call. You will only go into the plant if called in by the client and if the issue cannot be resolved over the phone. The tool being supported is a PUD tool (pack, unpack, dump).
- Be a true self‑starter; work independently and treat yourself as an independent contractor.
- When not taking service calls or not onsite, be self‑motivated to read service manuals and solve problems quickly. Be ready to support.
- On‑call 24/7, but calls after 5 p.m. are very infrequent.
- In or around 2026, coordinate and perform installation, startup, validation, and commissioning of new tools at the customer facility.
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on installed equipment under contract or customer Purchase Order.
- Review drawings, schematics, manuals, and other pertinent information to determine the best solution and proper tools for system set‑up or problem resolution.
- Communicate with the project team to ensure project awareness.
- Keep accurate service‑call records and prepare service/warranty reports for customers and internal distribution in a timely manner.
- Coordinate with the Engineering Department to ensure that drawings, technical manuals, sequence of operation, and PLC/HMI programs are current and correct.
- BS/AS Degree in Electrical Engineering is preferred; equivalent work experience may substitute.
- At least 2 years’ experience in a technical, customer‑focused field‑service position.
- Ability to work with minimal direction and function without a set schedule.
- Proficiency with Microsoft 365, PLCs, HMI, and PCs used in industrial applications.
- Solid PLC/Controls experience with ability to understand ladder logic and edit code as needed.
- Must live within 45 minutes of Hillsboro, OR.
- Preferred experience in cleanroom environments, following all customer protocols.
- Firm understanding of motion control systems (e.g., robotics).
- Firm understanding of mechanical devices employed in systems such as robots, conveyors, shuttles, and other material‑handling devices.
- Excellent customer focus and strong attention to detail; able to respond to customer complaints and high‑pressure situations at customer sites.
- Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and troubleshooting skills; able to solve problems and handle a variety of situations.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and time‑management skills.
- Proficient with standard electronic test equipment; able to read electrical schematics and mechanical drawings.
