The Opportunity:

The Washington County Sheriff s Office is recruiting for Jail Services Technician I positions. In this role, you will perform a variety of administrative jail services duties requiring extensive adults in-custody contact related to booking and custody support functions. This position will also perform tasks associated with electronically monitoring and controlling jail access and adults in custody movements within the county jail.

Opportunity for Growth! Jail Services Technician II ($31.21 - $39.86 hourly):
After two (2) years of experience monitoring inmate activities and completion of the Sheriff s Office internal Field Training and Education Program (FTEP), as well as receiving a certification as a fully qualified "Jail Services Technician", you will be eligible to advance to a Jail Services Technician II position.

This position works within a 24-hour per day, 7-days-per-week facility. Jail Services Technician I and II positions MUST be available to work all assigned shifts including day, swing, and/or graveyard schedules on any day of the week, and MUST be willing to work on holidays and weekends.

Duties
  • Performs a wide variety of specialized administrative correction s services such as: interviewing inmates to acquire booking and classification information; books and verifies charges, sentencing, and classification documents are accurate and complete, and determines appropriate placement of inmates in jail facilities and programs.
  • Assesses possible safety risks posed by inmates. Electronically monitors and controls access to all security perimeter entry/departure points and internal movement doors from the main control room or from maximum security pod living quarters within the secured perimeter of the jail; and electronically monitors selected areas within the jail perimeter via closed circuit television surveillance.
  • May be assigned to conduct special assignments such as needs assessments and risk evaluations to determine where and under what conditions inmates should be housed. Evaluates and determines particular needs of individual inmates; requests criminal records from LEDS; reviews reports regarding inmate behavior and makes classification decisions based on information obtained. Performs inmate classification reviews and reclassifications as necessary.
  • Prepares, enters, and updates custody information in custody management system; updates inmate custody and release date information based upon work credits, good behavior credits, disciplinary sanctions, and enrollment or termination from work credit eligible programs to ensure inmate release dates are current and accurate. Prepares court docket information and files for court appearances.
  • Assists in creating a positive and supportive work environment; enforces a safe workplace; establishes a culture of teamwork and communication; creates a workplace that promotes the organizational values of workplace diversity, equity, and inclusion; and actively promotes an environment respectful of living and working in a multicultural society. Electronically monitors complex public safety radio frequencies and serves as the central point of contact for all internal communications from sworn personnel on mobile radios, telephones, or intercoms.

    Communicates with sworn personnel regarding inmate housing movement within the jail; monitors and dispatches officers in response to alarms; and performs dispatch duties for jail operations.
  • Oversees inmate property storage and release; maintains control of a variety of jail equipment, key, and clothing inventories; and issues equipment and keys to jail line staff at each shift change. Inventories and accounts for all keys and equipment issued through master control; and retrieves and inspects returned items for serviceability and completeness.
