Position Summary:
Phlebotomists/Processors I collect blood specimens while providing prompt and courteous customer service to our patients. Phlebotomists/Processors I send those specimens to the laboratory without delay, and within the requirements needed to protect specimen integrity. Phlebotomists/Processors I receive and perform basic processing of all types of laboratory specimens within the laboratory, communicating vital information to the technical and hospital health care teams.
Responsibilities:
Perform venipuncture and capillary punctures following departmental procedures, ensuring proper patient identification, specimen labeling, handling, processing, and preparation for testing or transport.
Receive, deliver, and load specimens using appropriate computer systems while organizing and expediting specimen and order flow.
Assist with problem-solving related to patient draws, orders, and specimens.
Operate and maintain departmental equipment, including the paging system, pneumatic tube station, centrifuges, and printers.
Communicate courteously and efficiently, demonstrating strong customer service skills.
Complete all required training and competency assessments for new or updated procedures and equipment.
Perform inventory checks, stock supplies, and assist in training new employees when requested.
Follow all regulatory requirements, corporate integrity standards, departmental policies, and safety protocols, including universal precautions and proper sharps/biohazard disposal.
Work at other locations and perform shift- or location-specific duties as needed, along with any other assigned tasks.
Qualifications:
Must be a high school graduate or equivalent.
Some experience or training in phlebotomy or laboratory science is preferred.
Must have a valid driver's license and a reliable method of transportation to get to and from assigned work locations.
Physical & Safety Demands:
Must be able to walk 3-4 miles per day.
Must be able to walk or stand for the duration of the entire shift.
Will have exposure to biohazardous substances and hazardous chemicals.
Must be familiar with and adhere to the Company's safety, ergonomic, and health policies.
Must comply with all PPE requirements when in the laboratory or other biohazard areas.
Must complete required safety training and health evaluations in a timely manner.
Must anticipate safety hazards, address unsafe situations, and promote safety awareness.
