Hiring Range is $46,184 to $52,183 annually based on qualifications, education and experience as it relates to the position.

Position Summary

Under the supervision of the Sign Shop Supervisor, this position is responsible for sign construction, installation, and maintenance. Assists in identifying, planning, prioritizing, scheduling, and coordinating projects and personnel associated with all aspects of sign shop operation. Performs duties in a manner consistent with the stated values of the organization.

Essential Duties
  • Responsible for working directly with various District staff on permanent, temporary and seasonal related signage. Creates sign concept, design, and layout proof. Fabricates requested signs.
  • Constructs new signs utilizing computer software, plotting programs and operating vinyl plotting and inkjet printing equipment. Weeds and/or transfers completed artwork to various surfaces (coroplast, metal, die bond, banners, etc.).
  • Installs and/or removes new and temporary project and public meeting signs as needed. Assists in setting up underground utility locates, coordinates the installation, and ensures the installation is performed properly. Arranges for necessary assistance and may supervise other workers in the installation of signs.
  • Makes repairs, re-letters and/or re-paints signs as needed. Performs graffiti removal utilizing the proper removal chemicals and equipment required for the type of sign surface in the field without supervision.
  • Assists in the creation and maintenance of documentation involving standard operation procedures in order to maintain inventory and appropriate maintenance of District signs as assigned.
  • Assists with training and oversight of daily activities of part time and seasonal employees and volunteers and community service workers.
  • In the absence of the Supervisor this position schedules, assigns and dispatches crews and equipment to respective locations to maintain District signs.
  • Conducts inspections in the field to determine sign maintenance needs.
  • Participates in the cleaning and maintenance of the facility as needed. Keeps work area and shop clean and organized.
  • Conducts training of personnel in techniques for safe and efficient operation of equipment, tools, machinery, work methods and chemical applications.
  • Maintains, operates, and cares for assigned vehicles and equipment including hand and power tools, trucks, tractors, skid steer, auger, power post driver, metal shear, plotter, and ink jet printer. Performs maintenance on small equipment and notifies appropriate personnel for equipment or vehicle maintenance service or repairs. Maintains and routinely inventories parts and materials used while performing maintenance duties.
  • Exercises good judgment and proper safety precautions and practices at all times.
  • Keeps accurate records of daily activities and provides lists of materials for cost tracking. Responsible for providing accurate information for purchase card use and preparing purchase orders. Assists with the estimation, bidding, and purchasing of materials /supplies and services.
  • Develops and maintains professional relationships with District employees and vendors for specialized outsourced sign projects.
  • May be required to fill in for absent employees, covering some or all duties to ensure operations continue smoothly.
  • Responds tactfully, respectfully and in a timely manner to inquiries and problems in person, through email, phone, and mail by providing helpful information and explanations in-line with District policies and procedures. Thoughtfully handles confrontational or stressful interactions.
  • May be responsible for scheduled on-call emergency response.
  • Performs snow and ice removal using snow blower, shovel, ice scrapper, de-icing salt, etc.
