Accountant, Financial Reporting, Accounting Manager

Overview

Reports To: Executive Vice President (EVP)

Position Summary:

Members Source Credit Union is seeking a highly detail-oriented and deadline-driven Accountant to lead the accounting function and ensure the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of all financial reporting and General Ledger activity. This role requires hands-on work and experience with bank reconciliations, General Ledger balancing, and the ability to work independently while managing multiple deadlines. This position is expected to travel between MSCU locations as needed.

• General Accounting Operations
  • Independently complete monthly and annual closing processes while consistently meeting established deadlines
  • Process and post journal vouchers, investment income, mortgage payments, participation loans, and prepaids
  • Manage accruals for interest and investment income
  • Oversee Accounts Payable and Items Processing functions
  • Perform detailed and timely Corporate Credit union and General Ledger reconciliations, ensuring all accounts balance and discrepancies are promptly researched and resolved
• Financial Reporting and Compliance
  • Prepare monthly financial statements including Balance Sheet and Income Statement within required reporting timelines
  • File quarterly 5300 Call Reports in compliance with regulatory deadlines
  • Support external audits and ensure tax compliance with federal and state deadlines
  • Track and report on financial trends to management
  • Manage annual profit-sharing valuation and year-end financial close
  • Independently monitor reporting calendars and proactively manage workload to meet deadlines
• Other Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare, monitor, and update annual budget and financial forecasts
  • Lead and develop accounting staff
  • Implement and maintain strong internal accounting controls to ensure accuracy and compliance
  • Take ownership of assigned responsibilities and work independently to resolve issues and complete tasks
  • Perform other duties as assigned

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field
• Strong understanding of accounting principles and internal controls
• Experience with financial reporting, audits, and budgeting
• Strong experience performing bank reconciliations and General Ledger balancing
• Proven ability to meet strict deadlines in a fast-paced, regulated environment
• Demonstrated ability to work independently, prioritize workload, and manage multiple deadlines
• Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including formulas, pivot tables, lookups, and financial modeling
• Ability to independently build, maintain, and improve Excel-based reconciliations and financial reports
• Credit union or financial institution experience is a plus
• Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills
• Ability to travel between MSCU locations as needed within Northwest Indiana area
