AboutThe Role
We’re looking for a skilled Painter & Decorator Support Technician to join our Repairs team. You’ll deliver high‑quality decorating repairs and finishes in response to urgent and non‑urgent housing hazards, ensuring full compliance with Awaab’s Law and internal service standards. You’ll also carry out minor day‑to‑day maintenance tasks, including basic carpentry and plumbing, and work closely with surveyors and other trades to ensure hazards are resolved before decorating begins.
Key Responsibilities- Carry out internal and external painting and decorating tasks with high-quality finishes
- Prepare surfaces for decoration, including plastering, rendering, and making good walls
- Perform minor repairs prior to decorating and install/finish plasterboard
- Mix and apply coats of plaster, cement, and render
- Respond to damp, mould, and hazard-related decorating tasks within set time frames
- Collaborate with surveyors and trades to ensure hazards are resolved before decorating
- Erect and dismantle access equipment safely and comply with Health & Safety regulations
- Use tools and equipment safely and report any unsafe methods or equipment
- Liaise with colleagues, supervisors, and third‑party providers to ensure seamless delivery
- Maintain clear communication with residents and elevate issues when needed
- Keep accurate records of work completed, materials used, and resident interactions
- Monitor stock levels and request replenishments
- Use telephony, email, and IT systems to support efficient service delivery
- Recognised qualification (NVQ/BTEC) or minimum 5 years’ checkable experience in painting
- Understanding of Awaab’s Law and its implications for social landlords
- Knowledge of damp and mould causes, effects, and remedies
- Experience delivering high standards of customer‑focused service
- Ability to take ownership of issues and resolve them independently
- Physically fit and able to use ladders and scaffolding
- Ability to critique processes and implement improvements
- General understanding of all trade works
- Health & Safety awareness and knowledge of relevant legislation
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
- Adaptable, flexible, and able to work on own initiative
- Personal integrity and strong time management skills
- Team player with a full valid driving licence
- Understanding of internal and external customer needs
- CITB‑standard Health & Safety training
- Computer literacy
- Confidence in coaching apprentices and guiding developing team members
- Passion for maintaining homes to the highest standards
- Annual salary: £38,492 per annum
