Senior Mechanical Design Engineer – High Wycombe

Copello are working with a defence client who are currently looking for a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join a team who are responsible for designing, developing and supporting a portfolio of aerospace products for military and civilian applications.

In this role you will contribute to the support, design and development of current and next generation products. You will be expected to be creative and innovative in the generation of concepts and detailed designs using 3D CAD. You will need to be capable of designing products, critiquing, developing and following the process through to delivery.

Key responsibilities

• Design and development of new and existing products using 3D CAD (Solidworks) and use of FEA and CFD tools to simulate mechanical behaviour.
• Research and analysis of design proposals, specifications and other data to evaluate the feasibility, cost and maintenance requirements of designs.
• Ensure product conformance with performance specifications.
• Undertake tolerance analysis of designs (a good understanding of inspection metrology methods, GD&T and standard tolerance methods are highly beneficial).
• Collaborate with other engineers and departments to implement operating procedures, resolve product faults and provide technical support to manufacturing.
• Produce detailed drawings for component manufacture and product assembly. This will include piece part, assembly, family tree and installation drawings.
• Generation and management of parts lists and BOMs.
• Good understanding of design for manufacturability and knowledge of manufacturing technologies.
• A broad understanding of materials, treatments and finishes as well as their environmental implications.

Qualifications and experience

• Degree/HND in Mechanical Engineering or similar (experience will also be taken into account).
• Minimum of 5 years of proven experience in mechanical Design.
• Experience working in an Aerospace or Defence industry/environment.
• Experience of developing mechanical design solutions through Life Cycle Management process.
