Business Development, Client Relationship Manager
The Sales Manager is responsible for proactively soliciting and handling sales opportunities to maximize occupancy and revenue for the Sheraton Greensboro Koury Convention Center. This role involves proactive selling, managing customer inquiries and leads, aligning customer preferences with brand needs, and ensuring proper handling of business for the entirety of the event life cycle.
The Sales Manager will build and maintain strong relationships with clients, coordinate with internal teams, and drive customer loyalty through excellent service. This position requires effective communication, strong selling skills, and a detailed understanding of property operations, including food and beverage and planning.
Candidate Profile:Education and Experience:
Required:
- 2-year degree from an accredited university in Business Administration, Marketing, Hotel and Restaurant Management, or related major; 3 years of experience in sales and marketing or a related professional area.
- 4-year bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Hotel and Restaurant Management, or related major; 1 year of experience in sales and marketing or a related professional area.
- Previous experience in selling group business, either at a property or in a sales office.
- Knowledge of property operations and food and beverage.
- Experience with team-based selling and hospitality management.
Activities:
- Demonstrate a deep understanding of the assigned market segment, industry trends, competitors, the property, and the local community.
- Develop and execute proactive sales strategies to target and engage the assigned market segment.
- Handle customer inquiries and leads for group bookings within predefined Group Sales parameters.
- Respond promptly to group and catering opportunities, referring to appropriate sales associates for opportunities outside these parameters.
- Align customer preferences with hotel needs and actively up-sell to maximize revenue and drive loyalty.
- Verify timely and accurate turnover of business for quality service delivery.
- Demonstrate excellent selling skills, strong communication, and a thorough understanding of property operations.
- Understand market conditions and competitors to close the best opportunities based on property needs.
- Execute operational aspects of booked business, including generating proposals, writing contracts, and managing customer correspondence.
- Build and strengthen relationships with existing and new customers through sales calls, entertainment, FAM trips, and trade shows.
- Develop relationships within the community to expand the customer base for sales opportunities.
- Manage relationships with key stakeholders and ensure clear expectations throughout the sales process.
- Address guest issues that arise from the sales process and escalates to leadership as needed.
- Using Knowledge of Market Trends:
- Identify new business opportunities to meet personal and hotel sleeping room and revenue goals.
- Understand overall market trends, including competitors' strengths and weaknesses, economic trends, and supply and demand.
- Offer solutions based on a deep understanding of the location’s target customers and their business concerns.
- Support the company’s service and relationship strategy to drive customer loyalty.
- Deliver excellent customer service consistent with company standards and service basics.
- Interact with guests to gather feedback on product quality and service levels, setting a positive example for guest relations.
- Process business correspondence and create contracts and related booking documentation as required.
- Implement process improvements and best practices to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
- Perform other duties as assigned to meet business needs.
