** What You'll Do:
** Performs responsible technical work in interpreting and enforcing the City’s local codes ordinances – minimum housing, public nuisance, junked/abandoned vehicles, and zoning ordinances; does related work as required.
** Essential Tasks & Responsibilities:
*** Interprets, enforces and educates the public on the City’s Local Codes Ordinances
* Deals with the public by receiving complaints and furnishing information pertaining to local codes – minimum housing, public nuisance, junked vehicles and zoning ordinances
* Engaging in speaking with the community through proactive code enforcement
* Investigates citizen complaints regarding possible minimum housing, public nuisance, junked vehicle and zoning violations by performing field inspections
* Inspects development for compliance with any zoning and/or conditional use permit regulations prior to issuance of Certificates of Occupancy
* Conducts systematic inspections of minimum housing, public nuisance, junked vehicles and zoning violations
* Issues required notices of violations in accordance with North Carolina General Statutes, High Point’s Code of Ordinances and Development Ordinance for minimum housing, public nuisance, junked vehicles and zoning ordinance
* Takes necessary corrective action for securing voluntary compliance for local codes that are enforced by this division
* Issues civil penalties for violations not corrected
* Collaborate with other departments to ensure effective enforcement of City Code regulations.
* Maintain daily records of all activities performed in Accela database
* Ensures that all work performed is in accordance with OSHA and City Safety Standards and Policies

* Qualifications:

* * Formal Education
* High School Diploma or GED equivalent required
* Training and experience in code enforcement in the areas of construction, plumbing, electrical, mechanical or zoning is desirable.
* Thorough understanding of local, state and federal safety regulations and OSHA
* Valid North Carolina Driver’s License
* Preferred Qualifications
** Level I Certification or higher in building, plumbing, mechanical or electrical issued by NC State Code Qualifications Board; or
* Housing Code Certification issued by North Carolina Association of Housing Code Officials; or
* Certified Zoning Official…
