We are seeking a strategic and hands-on Director of Accounting / Finance to lead and build the accounting and finance function for a growing, privately held company. This role is ideal for a finance leader who thrives in an entrepreneurial environment and enjoys establishing processes, controls, and systems that support growth and scalability. The Director of Accounting / Finance will be responsible for overseeing all accounting operations, implementing best practices, improving financial visibility, and serving as a trusted business partner to company leadership.
Reporting directly to the President.
- Accounting Operations & Close Process
- Design, implement, and manage a structured month-end and quarter-end close process
, ensuring accuracy and timeliness - Oversee day-to-day accounting activities including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll coordination
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable regulatory requirements
- Prepare and present monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for leadership
- Develop meaningful financial reporting, dashboards, and KPIs to support decision-making
- Provide variance analysis, forecasting, and budgeting support
- Audit & Compliance
- Serve as the primary point of contact for external auditors and manage the audit process end-to-end
- Implement and maintain internal controls to support audit readiness and financial integrity
- Ensure compliance with tax filings and coordination with external tax advisors
- Process Improvement & Systems
- Establish and document standard operating procedures (SOPs) across accounting and finance functions
- Lead invoicing automation and process improvements to enhance efficiency and cash flow
- Evaluate and improve financial systems, tools, and workflows to support growth
- Leadership & Business Partnership
- Act as a strategic advisor to company leadership on financial and operational matters
- Collaborate cross-functionally with operations, sales, and leadership to align financial processes with business needs
- Build scalable processes that can support future hiring and company expansion
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA preferred)
- 8+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience, including leadership responsibility
- Experience in a privately held, growing, or entrepreneurial environment
- Strong background in month-end close, financial reporting, audits, and internal controls
- Demonstrated experience implementing processes, SOPs, and system improvements
- Hands-on leader comfortable operating at both strategic and tactical levels
- Strong communication skills and ability to partner with non-financial stakeholders
