Electrical Engineer (Shift Electrical Engineer with Weekend Cover)

Job Type: Full‑time, Shift‑based, Weekend Call‑Out Rota
Salary: Competitive (based on experience) + shift allowance + weekend call‑out payments
Working Hours: 06:00–14:00 / 14:00–22:00 (Monday–Friday) + weekend rota cover
About the Role: We are looking for a highly skilled Shift Electrical Engineer to join our Engineering team. You will play a key role in ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of our production facilities across two sites. Working on a rotating shift pattern and providing weekend cover on a call‑out rota, you will support the Operations team by minimising downtime, improving asset performance, and ensuring compliance with planned maintenance schedules.
This is an excellent opportunity for a proactive engineer with strong troubleshooting skills and a continuous improvement mindset.
- Respond promptly to plant breakdowns and complete corrective actions, recording all work on the CMMS (Shire).
- Deliver planned preventative maintenance on time and in full.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and compliant work environment, always adhering to health & safety and GMP standards.
- Provide first‑line maintenance support to manufacturing teams and communicate effectively with Team Leaders and Managers.
- Participate in machine installation, decommissioning, panel building, and engineering project work.
- Monitor line performance and contribute to efficiency improvements.
- Order spare parts and work closely with Engineering Stores.
- Liaise with contractors and issue permits (if trained).
- Support continuous improvement initiatives and contribute to CI teams.
- Train and coach colleagues as required and provide cover for the Engineering Team Leader when needed.
- Participate in both electrical and mechanical maintenance activities to the best of your capability.
- Strong fault‑finding and problem‑solving abilities.
- Excellent organisation, communication, and time‑management skills.
- Computer literate (Microsoft Office and mobile device use).
- Reliable, punctual, and highly motivated.
- Able to work at height, alone, or as part of a team under pressure.
- Logical, practical, detail‑focused, and safety‑minded.
- Open to learning and committed to continuous improvement.
- Willing to challenge the status‑quo to drive progress.
- Time‑served engineering apprenticeship.
- NVQ Level 3 / ONC / BTEC Level 3 in Electrical, Mechanical, or Electronic Engineering.
- Proficiency with 18th Edition Wiring Regulations.
- Strong organisational skills and ability to work independently or in a team.
- Good command of written and spoken English.
- Experience reading and interpreting technical drawings.
- Analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- Health & Safety mindset.
- Experience in an FMCG or highly regulated environment.
- HNC qualification.
- Rotating shifts:
Monday–Thursday 06:00–14:00 and 14:00–22:00;
Friday 06:00–12:00 and 12:00–18:00. - Average 38 hours per week plus weekend call‑out rota (approx. once every 4 weeks after probation).
- Weekend cover paid at 12 hours per day (Saturday & Sunday 24 hours total).
- Shift pay incorporated into hourly rate.
- Additional pay for weekend call‑outs.
