This is a highly visible, hands-on leadership role for someone who wants to be on the floor, in the process, and at the center of how food safety and quality are executed every day.
We’re seeking a Food Safety & Quality Manager who brings both technical expertise and practical leadership to support multiple manufacturing, packaging, warehouse, and distribution operations. This role is critical to maintaining audit readiness, strengthening food safety culture, and ensuring compliance is embedded into daily operations, not just documented.
What You’ll Own- Lead food safety and quality programs across assigned sites with a strong focus on execution, prevention, and accountability
- Own and maintain SQF systems, HACCP, Preventive Controls, Food Defense, cGMPs, GDPs, FSMA compliance, and all prerequisite programs
- Serve as a primary participant in SQF audits, regulatory inspections, DC audits, and customer audits
- Conduct internal audits, mock recalls, traceability exercises, and oversee corrective action follow-up
- Ensure all sites remain audit-ready at all times, not just during inspection periods
- Maintain a strong daily presence on the production floor and in warehouse environments
- Perform routine walk-throughs monitoring employee practices, hygiene, allergen controls, documentation, and sanitation
- Manage customer complaints from investigation through root cause analysis and CAPA
- Partner with operations, sanitation, and maintenance to address facility, equipment, and pest control issues quickly
- Ensure sanitation programs meet the highest standards and are consistently followed
- Lead with visibility, accountability, and approachability in a fast-paced environment
- Train and coach teams on food safety, quality, sanitation, and compliance expectations
- Work closely with Manufacturing, Packaging, Warehousing, Product Development, and Sanitation teams
- Reinforce a strong food safety culture through clear expectations and hands-on leadership
- Maintain food safety and quality records including audits, training logs, specifications, and non-conformance data
- Analyze trends and implement corrective and preventive actions to reduce risk and improve consistency
- Help establish product specifications, operating parameters, and monitoring systems
- Recommend solutions for ingredient, process, or product issues early in production
- Promote and maintain safe working conditions through inspections, training, and job safety analyses
- Ensure prompt reporting and investigation of incidents and injuries
- Enforce PPE use, machine guarding, and OSHA compliance standards
- Participate in safety meetings and collaborate with safety committees and HR
- Step in as Sanitation Manager when needed
- Empowered to stop production if food safety risks are identified
- Support special projects and continuous improvement initiatives as assigned
- Proven experience developing and maintaining SQF systems with strong third-party audit results
- Solid working knowledge of FDA regulations, FSMA, Preventive Controls, HACCP, QMS, CAPA, allergens, GMPs, GDPs, and food defense
- Experience in food manufacturing and/or distribution environments
- Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Microbiology, or a related field preferred
- Strong communication skills with the ability to train, influence, and hold teams accountable
- Self-directed, organized, and comfortable working independently across multiple sites
- Approximately 10% local travel between sites
- Majority of time spent at the Hicksville location with periodic support at a secondary site
- Manufacturing and warehouse environment with exposure to hot and cold conditions
- Requires daily movement throughout facilities
