Perform semi‑skilled work in construction, maintenance and repair of water and sewer utility lines and taps. Other duties as assigned. Applicants must possess the ability to perform heavy manual work for an extended period of time outdoors in varying climatic conditions; ability to operate a manual transmission vehicle, dewatering pump, tamp and various hand tools; ability to communicate using oral and written skills;
prefer applicants who have experience performing related work in Water & Sewer Construction. Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent, minimum age of 18 and a valid NC Class “C” driver’s license.
- Conducts traffic control at jobsites; operates crew vehicle.
- Assists with clearing of Public Utilities Rights‑of‑Way.
- Assists with loading the dump truck.
- Locates underground utilities.
- Assists with jetting functions to clean lines.
- Assists in the repair of water main breaks, and sewer main failures.
- Assists in the installation and repair of water meters, hydrants, valve boxes, water valves, mains, sewer cleanouts, and manholes.
- Performs building maintenance duties.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Ability to read, write and perform basic mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school or equivalent.
- Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of construction equipment.
- Knowledge of relevant safety procedures and guidelines.
- Skill in the installation, repair, and maintenance of a water distribution system.

The employee is frequently/repeatedly required to stand; walk; use hands and exert forces needed to handle various types and sizes of tools, equipment and objects; reach with hands and arms and perform elevated work for periods of time; climb ladders and balance; climb into vehicles and equipment; stoop; kneel; half‑kneel; squat; crouch; or crawl; and talk; or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit.
The employee must frequently lift, push, pull and/or move more than 100 pounds. An employee in this position will have successfully passed a “Functional Prework Screen” administered by a professional and impartial third party specialist.
This position has been identified as safety‑sensitive. The employee in this position will be part of a random drug testing pool. The methodology for choosing the random test subjects is handled by an outside, impartial, third party vendor.
Work EnvironmentThe work is typically performed outdoors, occasionally in cold or inclement weather. The employee may be exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, machinery with moving parts, contagious or infectious diseases, and irritating chemicals. The work may require the use of protective devices.
