Carolina Animal Specialty & Emergency Hospital is hiring a weekend‑only Veterinary Assistant to join our emergency and specialty team in our brand‑new 12,000‑square‑foot facility in Hickory, NC.

Location: Hickory, North Carolina

Department: Veterinary Assistants

Schedule Requirement: Dedicated weekend position with mandatory availability each Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and 2nd Shift.

Weekend Differential Pay: Includes weekend differential similar to night shift pay. Enhanced hourly rate contingent upon full, consistent availability every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Candidates unable to commit to all three days will not qualify for differential compensation.

Day‑to‑Day Responsibilities:

• IV catheter placement and venipuncture
• Administer medications (IV, SQ, oral)
• Assist with anesthesia protocols and monitoring
• Support radiographic procedures
• Perform diagnostic testing (blood, urine, fecal)
• CPR knowledge and emergency response experience
• Provide compassionate, high‑quality inpatient care
• Recognize and respond to changes in patient condition
• Monitor hospitalized and post‑operative patients
• Communicate clearly with clients regarding patient care
• Educate on treatment plans and discharge instructions
• Admit and discharge patients professionally
• Ensure accurate invoicing and medical record‑keeping

Skills, Knowledge, and Expertise:

• RVT preferred
• Experience as a Veterinary Assistant required (ER / specialty experience strongly preferred)
• Confident animal handling and restraint skills
• Ability to stay calm and focused in high‑pressure environments
• Reliable, team‑oriented, and professional
• Passion for emergency and specialty veterinary medicine
