DescriptionCarolina Animal Specialty & Emergency Hospital is hiring a Weekend-Only Veterinary Assistant to join our emergency and specialty team in our brand-new 12,000-square-foot facility in Hickory, NC
.
We are a multi-specialty and 24‑hour emergency hospital offering Internal Medicine, Surgery, Behavior, Rehabilitation, and Critical Care services. Our hospital is fully equipped with a dedicated ICU, advanced imaging (CT, ultrasound, fluoroscopy, digital radiology), in‑house laboratory, and rehabilitation suite
, allowing our teams to deliver gold‑standard patient care in a high‑volume, high‑acuity environment.
This role is perfect for someone who thrives in fast‑paced medicine and prefers a condensed, consistent weekend schedule with premium weekend pay.

This position includes a weekend differential (similar to night shift pay). Your enhanced hourly rate is contingent upon full, consistent availability every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Candidates unable to commit to all three days will not qualify for weekend differential compensation.
Your day‑to‑day responsibilities will include:Technical Skills
- IV catheter placement and venipuncture
- Administer medications (IV, SQ, oral)
- Assist with anesthesia protocols and monitoring
- Support radiographic procedures
- Perform diagnostic testing (blood, urine, fecal)
- CPR knowledge and emergency response experience
Patient Care
- Provide compassionate, high‑quality inpatient care
- Recognize and respond to changes in patient condition
- Monitor hospitalized and post‑operative patients
Client Relations & Documentation
- Communicate clearly with clients regarding patient care
- Educate on treatment plans and discharge instructions
- Admit and discharge patients professionally
- Ensure accurate invoicing and medical record‑keeping
- RVT preferred
- Experience as a Veterinary assistant required (ER/specialty experience strongly plus)
- Confident animal handling and restraint skills
- Ability to stay calm and focused in high‑pressure environments
- Reliable, team‑oriented, and professional
