Overview

Registered Nurse (RN), Vascular Access at Frye Regional Medical Center – Hickory, NC. Full-time:
Days.

Schedule:

7a-7p, 7 days a week (actual shifts may vary; call may be required at times).

• Assess, insert, and manage vascular access devices, including PICC lines, midlines, and ultrasound-guided peripheral IVs.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams (physicians, nurses, case managers) to coordinate patient care and optimize outcomes.
• Perform patient assessments, initiate appropriate nursing interventions, and document medical necessity in the medical record.
• Develop and revise the Interdisciplinary Care Plan for each patient; conduct timely QI assessments.
• Assess need for mid-to-long-term vascular access devices (VADs) using evidence-based guidelines; manage DIVA assessments.
• Review patient information via electronic chart reviews; verify indications for VAD placement and recommend device selection with physicians.
• Coordinate discharge planning and follow-up for VAD patients in collaboration with inpatient hospitalists.
• Provide VAD placement in appropriate settings; maintain devices across hospital services (except for pediatric patients) or refer to Interventional Radiology as needed.
• Obtain informed consent for PICC placement; perform ultrasound-guided vascular access under sterile technique; administer local anesthesia as appropriate.
• Utilize PICC tip confirmation systems and follow up Chest X-Ray to confirm PICC placement.
• Document VAD placements in the electronic health record; troubleshoot complications and provide recommendations for unresolved placements.
• Manage declotting of VADs as needed; provide patient education on VAD care and maintenance.
• Educate staff on VAD care, management, and complication handling; assist in policy/procedure development.
• Provide physician and staff education; serve as expert consultant on VADs and ultrasound-guided placement.
• Collect VAD data on procedures, complications, and infection rates; contribute to internal quality improvement initiatives.
• Maintain knowledge and competency in infusion therapy and evaluate new VAD products; assist in staff training.

• Current state RN license.
• Bachelor’s degree preferred but not required.
• Basic Life Support (BLS);
  Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS);
  Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required.
• Vascular Access Board Certification (VA-BC) preferred or must be obtained within six (6) months of hire.
