About the TeamWe are seeking a dedicated and skilled Vascular Access Nurse to join our specialized team at Frye Regional Medical Center, part of Lifepoint Health. In this role, you will assess, insert, and manage various vascular access devices, including PICC lines, midlines, and ultrasound‑guided peripheral IVs, ensuring optimal patient outcomes.
Responsibilities- Accurately perform patient assessments and identify patient needs.
- Initiate appropriate nursing interventions.
- Provide care appropriate to patient condition and age.
- Document medical necessity in the patient record in a timely manner.
- Complete and revise the Interdisciplinary Care Plan for each patient.
- Perform timely and accurate QI assessments.
- Assess patients for the need for a mid‑to‑long‑term vascular access device (VAD) using evidence‑based guidelines.
- Assess patients with difficult intravenous access (DIVA) for appropriate VAD need.
- Review electronic chart for indications, history, lab values, and medication record.
- Verify indications for VAD placement and coordinate with physicians.
- Coordinate discharge planning and post‑discharge follow‑up for VADs.
- Provide vascular access device placement in outpatient settings as appropriate.
- Maintain the appropriate vascular access device throughout hospital services, except for pediatric patients; refer to IR when appropriate.
- Obtain informed consent for PICC placement.
- Perform ultrasound‑guided placement of vascular access devices under sterile or surgical aseptic technique.
- Administer local anesthesia (lidocaine) during ultrasound‑guided procedures.
- Use PICC tip confirmation system to confirm placement.
- Follow up on chest X‑ray to confirm PICC placement.
- Document placement in the electronic health record.
- Assist medical and nursing colleagues in troubleshooting complications of vascular access devices.
- Provide recommendations for unsuccessful PICC placement; assist with declotting as a resource.
- Educate patients on VAD care and maintenance.
- Provide staff education on VAD care, complications, and policy development.
- Serve as an expert consultant to physicians on VADs.
- Train nursing and medical colleagues on ultrasound‑guided placement.
- Collect VAD data and report on procedures performed, complications, and infection rates.
- Participate in internal quality improvement processes.
- Maintain knowledge and competency related to infusion therapy.
- Evaluate new VAD products and assist staff training.

Qualifications- Current state RN license.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification required.
- Vascular Access Board Certification (VA‑BC) preferred or obtained within 6 months of hire.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred (not required).
