Responsibilities- Assess, insert, and manage various vascular access devices, including PICC lines, midlines, and ultrasound-guided peripheral IVs.
- Work closely with interdisciplinary teams to coordinate patient care and ensure optimal outcomes.
- Proficiency in ultrasound-guided procedures, strong critical thinking abilities, and excellent communication skills.
- Accurately perform patient assessments and identify patient needs; initiate appropriate nursing interventions.
- Provide care appropriate to the condition and age of the patient; documentation relating to medical necessity in the medical record.
- Complete and revise the Interdisciplinary Care Plan for each patient; perform timely QI assessments.
- Assess need for mid-to-long-term vascular access devices (VAD) using evidence-based guidelines; evaluate difficult IV access (DIVA) cases.
- Review patient information via electronic chart to identify indications, history, labs, and medications; verify indications for VAD placement and coordinate device selection with physicians.
- Coordinate discharge planning and follow-up for VADs with inpatient teams; provide VAD placement in outpatient settings as appropriate.
- Obtain informed consent for PICC placement; perform ultrasound-guided placement under sterile technique; administer local anesthesia as appropriate.
- Use PICC tip confirmation systems and follow up with Chest X-ray to confirm placement.
- Document vascular access device placement in the EHR; troubleshoot complications and provide recommendations for unsuccessful placements.
- Declot VADs or assist staff as needed; provide patient education on VAD care and maintenance.
- Provide staff education on VAD care and management; contribute to policy development and training; assist physicians with ultrasound-guided placement training.
- Collect VAD data and report on procedures performed, complications, and infection rates; participate in internal quality improvement processes.
- Maintain knowledge and competency related to infusion therapy; evaluate new VAD products and assist in training staff.
- Current state RN license.
- Bachelors degree preferred but not required.
- Basic Life Support (BLS);
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS);
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification required. - Vascular Access Board Certification (VA-BC) preferred or to be obtained within six (6) months of hire.
