Our Nephrology Oncology Unit is made up of 17 beds. The NEON nursing team uses a holistic approach in caring for patients and families. Frye is accredited by the American College of Surgeons as a comprehensive cancer center and has received the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC). Our team is dedicated to improving care and providing patients a full spectrum of services and treatments to better meet their needs.
Positionand Responsibilities
- The Charge Nurse demonstrates leadership behavior and ability to function independently in a decentralized environment.
- Exercises total confidentiality in matters pertaining to department employees, patients and families.
- Demonstrates sound clinical judgment and skill in specialty area.
- Reinforces and disseminates information, policy decisions and plans as discussed by Nurse Manager.
- Assists the Nurse Manager with employee evaluations and performance management. Utilizes observation techniques, chart review, and patient interviews to evaluate staff nurse performance and quality of patient care delivered. Assists employees to improve/maintain performance by establishing goals with measurable performance outcomes, action plans, and time frames.
- Interviews applicants and makes recommendations for hiring.
- Completes evaluations for assigned employees.
- Assists in coordination of new hire orientation, education, competency verification and development of staff. Integrates education programs with appropriate clinical experiences to promote professional growth of staff. Serves as role model by demonstrating initiative, conflict resolution, and positive morale.
- Communicates and follows the organization’s chain of command for notification of patient care and/or service issues.
- Assigns patients to staff based on patient acuity, staff skills and staffing matrix. Evaluates effectiveness.
- Assigns patients to beds assisting with throughput from ER. Monitors bed turnover and acts as a catalyst to improve throughput systems.
- Acts as a resource person for patients, visitors, staff, and physicians in both routine and crisis situations. Addresses problems and complaints thoroughly and promptly.
- Ensures and maintains equipment and supply needs for the unit and communicates positive and negative trends to the Nurse Manager.
- Assist and report patient satisfaction concerns and staff recognition to the Nurse Manager.

REQUIREMENTS, CERTIFICATIONS & LICENSURES
- Current NC license.
- Current BLS.
- Current Chemotherapy/Biotherapy Certification
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE
- 1-2 years’ experience in a clinical specialty area.
