Duke Heart Network PartnerThe Frye Heart Center is partnered with the Duke Heart Network and is the only Duke Heart affiliate in Western North Carolina. Frye is the region’s only comprehensive heart center performing more than 6750 heart procedures each year including open heart surgery. Frye is a Chest Pain Center with accredited PCI, offering 24/7 interventional cardiology with an experienced network of physician specialists and cardiovascular providers.

Frye’s three intensive care units are made up of 8 beds each for a total of 24 beds. Specialized nursing staff provide care for critically ill patients and their families using a holistic, integrated team approach. In the CVICU, Cardiovascular trained nurses provide care for patients who have undergone procedures such as coronary artery bypass grafts and valve replacements.
Summary of Major Responsibilities- Assessing the patient’s physical and mental health including the patient’s reaction to illnesses and treatment regimens.
- Recording and reporting the results of the nursing assessment.
- Planning, initiating, delivering, and evaluating appropriate nursing acts.
- Teaching, assigning, delegating to or supervising other personnel in implementing the treatment regimen.
- Collaborating with other health care providers in determining the appropriate health care for a patient but, subject to the provisions of G.S.90-18.2, not in prescribing a medical treatment regimen or making a medical diagnosis, except under supervision of a licensed physician.
- Implementing the treatment and pharmaceutical regimen prescribed by any person authorized by State law to prescribe the regimen.
- Providing teaching and counseling about the patient’s health.
- Reporting and recording the plan for care, nursing care given, and the patient’s response to that care.
- Supervising, teaching, and evaluating those who perform or are preparing to perform nursing functions and administering nursing programs and nursing services.

Requirements, Certifications & Licensures
- Current North Carolina License
- BLS, ACLS required or within one year of employment
Minimum Experience
- ICU - Previous Critical Care experience preferred.
- Minimum 1 year of inpatient RN experience required.
